Mama2Many4
So this has had me wondering for so long. An odd question but it's something that's been bugging me. When you clean your cat's litter box, do they watch you? My cat's watch my every move and it drives me batty! I feel like some lowly peasant cleaning up after them the way they scrutinize me. Then as soon as I'm done cleaning, they jump in together to soil it up again! Drives me crazy! They're lucky I love them. :001_wub: Edited November 4, 2011 by 3Blessings4Me
GingerPoppy
No, but when she hears me doing it, she'll definitely make her way down the stairs to come and see what I'm up to. Maybe she hears scratching and thinks I'm using it? :001_huh::D
Moniksca
Yes, my dh is the lowly peasant though since I'm pregnant. He often expresses that is how he feels since the cats don't like him much compared to the kids. They also go in right after to use the litter box right away. Jilly
My cats used to watch me clean the litter box until I got a dog. Now he comes running every time I clean it. He just stands there and stares at me. :glare:
mommyrooch
Yes, and for some reason they feel they must "break it in" right after we've cleaned it. :D Without fail, they will do their business immediately after we've cleaned it. It's like they can't stand it to be clean! :glare:
Mama2Many4
Just as I expected then. I knew my cats couldn't be the only ones.
Maus
Yep. Ours do, our male cat especially.
West Coast Mom
No, but one of them likes to watch us take a shower. Or, he perches on the side of the tub while the kids bathe. Shutting the door doesn't help because he can open them. It's kind of creepy and funny all at the same time.

1GirlTwinBoys
Mine do the same thing. We have 2 cats that we keep in the utility room downstairs. They ALWAYS watch me clean the litter box and then immediately get in it when I'm done.:glare: I've never had cats before we got these a couple months ago. For whatever reason, cats seem a little creepy and weird. I'm just so used to dogs I guess.
Jeannie in NJ
yep, my cats watch and then jump in to dirty it back up. Also I had to finally put a latch on my bathroom door as often several of them would come in and watch me take a shower and 2 of them would walk around the rim of the tub . They would also come in when I was using the toilet, I said enough and put that latch on so I could have the bathroom in peace, I mean my dc are older now and don't bother me in the bathroom so why should my cats get to lol. bcnlvr
Our cats are toilet trained (we have no litter boxes) and they will watch the kids clean the bathrooms. Very interesting, indeed! I thought it was because of the flushing etc associated with them cleaning, but there might be more to it if litter kitties like to watch cleaning of the "potty" area, too! :glare:

RegGuheert
We have cats. We have a litter box. But they would rather go outside. That's fine with us, since it is one less thing for us to clean up. If our cat watched us cleaning the litter, I would imagine he did it because he gets a kick out of us servicing his needs. :tongue_smilie:
Lady Florida.
No but somehow they know, because as soon as it's been cleaned they go and use it.
Julie Smith
My cats never did that. But the cats I had growing up gave the family that lowly servant feeling. They were such picky eaters that if the food wasn't perfect they wouldn't eat. They wouldn't eat for days till they would just lie beside the food dish wasting away. They also changed food preferences every few months. So when they changed preferences you had to try one thing after another till you food out what they would eat. For awhile Fireball would only eat fresh dry cat food, of a specific name brand and flavor served in a china dish. (Dish from the thrift store :p But he didn't know that) For awhile Tiger would only eat the cheapest wet cat food, it smelt like cat pee. It had to be warmed and slightly salted. She would also have you reheat it anytime she wanted to eat more. Those were some **** skinny cats at times.

Stacia
Mostly, no, they don't watch the litter box getting scooped. But sometimes they do (esp. the guy who likes to jump in & use it right away. Heck, sometimes he gets in WHILE I'm still cleaning it. :tongue_smilie:) And, yes, all our cats are bathroom invaders like others have mentioned. One of them barges in, I think, becase he knows he has a 'captive' audience. ;)
angela in ohio
Yep. We have an old boy kitty and a baby girl kitty. Dd or dh clean it, and they always watch. They also perch on the chest freezer and stare until I bring back their dinner dish after cleaning it. They make good management. Ours can't open the door to the cleaning closet in the kitchen, and they often bat their toys (twist ties and hair elastics) under the door. So they sit and cry until someone comes and opens the door. :D They can open the bathroom door upstairs, and they turn on the faucet a tiny bit and get a drink by climbing in the sink. :glare: Then they want to clean each other's faces on top of the printer and hit the print button repeatedly. The baby kitty has taken to eating NERF darts, so she waits outside ds's door to sneak in and steal them from his closet. It's really like having a bunch of toddlers in the house. awtl
I've never actually noticed if they watch or not, but they sure love to jump in there and go as soon as you're done. I don't know what is up with that. Sometimes I wish I knew what goes on in their heads.
Murphy101
Oh yeah. They watch right at our heels and then fight to be the first to poop in it after we are done.:glare: Edited November 4, 2011 by Martha

Drives me nuts because the second I'm out of the shower, she has to rub all over me getting fur stuck to me so bad I look like I haven't shaved a day in my life. Ick. Dh lives in fear of her deciding his jewels are new play things when he leaves the shower. He wants her declawed.:tongue_smilie:
Dmmetler
Mine do, too. And once, one of them tripped me when I had the full box in my hands (talk about a MESS!!!).Maybe it's a "you're taking my scent away! I have to mark my territory" kind of thing. MamaT
I thought it was just my cats! They watch and then take turns pooping as soon as it is clean. They like to sit on the side of the bathtub while I'm taking a bath too. One night I had three cats on the side of the tub and the dog on the floor - I had been gone all day and he wouldn't leave my side. I thought to myself, "this is ridiculous." I love them all, though.
