cathmom
As I searched for the teaching DVD for my dd's MUS yesterday, the thought popped into my head, "I'm sick of homeschooling." And I haven't been able to shake it since then. I am. I just am. Of course, I'm sick. There's a lot going on. My crazy life has been even crazier the past couple weeks. I know. But I'm so sick of trying to do all these things (which are necessary and not optional) and homeschool too.

cathmom
:grouphug: Have you taken off? From school? We haven't done school all this week because of my teaching schedule this week. I did some math with my dds on Wednesday. That's it.

justamouse
From school? We haven't done school all this week because of my teaching schedule this week. I did some math with my dds on Wednesday. That's it. I don't think you're going to get over the burnout of you've still got the *should* monster sitting on your shoulder. You may have 'done some math' but as long as you are stressing yourself out with your own expectations you're not going to feel better.:grouphug:

I'm trying to be clear and reasonable in my expectations of myself but it's very, very difficult.

cathmom
But it's not just that - my physical therapist said to me a couple of weeks ago, "You can be as organized as all get out and it's still a lot for one person to do!" I realized a couple of weeks ago that when I made up my schedule, I planned when everyone else should eat lunch but not me. I didn't plan any breaks for myself at all. Danestress
I have loved homeschooling. So much. And then last year, I really just was so tired of it. I wasn't tired of my children, but I was tired of homeschooling them. So this year, I used a little money to pay for some online classes. Potters School. Derek Owens. I can't tell you how much weight has been lifted off me by having someone else teach a little. It wasn't cheap, and I know some people don't want to "contract out" for a number of very legitimate reasons. But if it's possible for you, I recommend it. And the thing is, I only have two kids at home and I don't work at all. I was still a little burned out. I'm not at all surprised that with a nestful AND a job, you would sort of hit a point where the enthusiasm wanes.
cathmom
We're already planning to have the two oldest take classes in the morning at the charter school where I teach next year. I may put my twins in the lottery for another charter school that has an elementary school. Depending on what happens/how the transition goes, some or all of them may go FT after that. itsrks
:grouphug: It's perfectly normal to be burnt out once in a while when you have 8 children!!! and a husband!:D It's amazing that you don't think about quiting. Is there some way you can step back and look at your situation objectively? Or, is there something you can do out of the ordinary that can help? Just don't forget to enjoy your life even if it is busy. Have a fun attitude. I'm not trying to annoy you when you're burnt out, I've been there and these are the things that helped me.
