All4one
I have a 2 year old who sweats alot during naps. Her pillow is usually soaked with sweat. Does anyone know why her hair and skin would smell like vinegar? She's healthy, meets all the milestones, eats and drinks normally - no medical concerns. Any ideas? Thanks! itsheresomewhere
Its from taking in more protein than the body can use. Nothing to worry about except if it smells like ammonia. Then you need to talk to a doctor.
abbeyej
I would take her in... It's *probably* nothing, but it *could* be an early sign of type 1 diabetes, and I'd want to rule that out...

itsheresomewhere
Just curious...what if it does smell like ammonia? That is a symptom of kidney issues.
theYoungerMrsWarde
My 2yo also wakes up from naps sweat-stained and damp hair. I'm not sure I would describe the smell as any of you did, but there is one. I thought that maybe it was because he slept with his mouth open and drooled a lot.
Random
That is a symptom of kidney issues. Sorry to hijack...can you give me a link or more info? This is about me, not any of my children. I've always been curious as to why I absolutely reek of ammonia after a work out. (Sorry...TMI)
All4one
Thanks for your posts. Her main source of protein is cow's milk. Could it be a result of a milk allergy? Her older sister has a milk allergy and the rest of us switched to rice milk. I was waiting until she got a little older to switch her to rice milk. She doesn't have any of the symptoms for juvenile diabetes. I was concerned about that, too. We also don't have any family history of diabetes. She definitely smells more acidic than sweet. beaners
My little ones will smell like yeast if they get very sweaty and haven't had their hair scrubbed recently. I believe the yeasty smell is caused by certain bacteria. It is a sharp smell, but not quite like vinegar.
Shellers
...... We also don't have any family history of diabetes. She definitely smells more acidic than sweet. There doesn't need to be a family history of diabetes. At 10 my niece was diagnosed with type 1 and there is no family history of diabetes.
