rwjx2khsmj
We are celebrating Thanksgiving for the first time in this house. We are expected 20 for dinner. My concern is where to seat everyone. Our dining room seats 12. The kitchen can seat 8 but it's a snug fit. Seating everyone with the currently available seating separates the family, something we've never had to do before. Would it be better to add a table and make the three smaller, less crowded tables? Would it be better to swap the family room and dining room furniture and put everyone in the same room (family room) for dinner? ETA: There will be 13 adults and seven kids ages 2-15. Joker
We always had big, family gatherings for holidays growing up and the kids would usually occupy one space (and have way more fun than the adults) while the adults took up space somewhere else. I have a lot of fun memories of my cousins during these get togethers.

Cinder
I don't think it's necessary to have everyone in one room. Do what you need to make everyone comfortable.
Starr
We've moved furniture to have everyone in the living room. We had a nice long table(s) down the center of the room and it was really nice. We have a big kitchen too so recently we've added an extra table and put large groups in the kitchen. I generally prefer to have all the family together on holidays. mom4him
We will have 18 here. We don't do a sit down and pass the potatoes meal though. We have a big island and put all the food on it buffet style. We pray, everyone goes through the line and sits where they can. We try to get the kids at the table but not room for many more. It is very relaxed, informal, and stress free.:001_smile:
Ellie
We're having 16 people this year. It's the first time we've ever had that many, and we're excited. As it turns out, we'll be evenly divided, children and adults. So I'm putting the adults at one table, the children at the other. We'll all be together--that is, milling around, grouping and regrouping--for most of the day. I don't think it will hurt if we have children and adults separated for the brief time that we'll be eating. And it will be fun for everyone. Kids love sitting by themselves. :D
