Trish
Getting your tonsils out as an adult is NOT a little thing! (it ain't that great as a 12-year-old, either, which is when I had mine out) My father had his out as an adult, and he still talks about it. What helped me: sucking on teeny tiny ginger ale ice cubes. (look for a tray that can make very small cubes) I'll pray! :grouphug:

Starr
Praying for all to go well and a quick healing. Once you are better you can listen to Bill Cosby's sketch on kids getting tonsils out in the olden (mine) days. :)

Cera
I had mine out at 18. It was definitely not easy (an overnight in the hospital and about 10 days until I felt fully recovered) but it was definitely worth it. Take your pain meds on schedule whether or not you feel you need them for the first 4-5 days and sip room temp water with honey to help coat your throat. Good luck! amo_mea_filiis.
From my understanding, the muscles used to suck a straw can interfere with healing. I had mine out at 5 years old, and my kids at 3 and 6, and we were told the same thing.
itsheresomewhere
Drinking from straws makes a dry air socket. You don't want those ever. Most people I know that have had them, would rather have surgery wide awake/no drugs compared to those.
Sparkle
Prayers and :grouphug: I would be dreading it too. Hope it goes well, and you heal quickly.
