My husband is putting up the christmas tree right now.

Recommended Posts

I'm married to a freak.

Sunday he carved pumpkins and then re arranged the living room "so it would be tree ready".

Then he set up the Christmas Village.

There weren't any autopsies to do today so he's home early and now he and the 9yo are starting right now.

And now he's playing christmas carols.

At least he just informed me that this is "my turn" for the the lights. We can set them to solid or a slower blink (my choice) or a fast pace seizure inducing blink (his choice), so we take turns. And this year apparently it's my turn. At least there is that I guess. And he did vacume the area where the couches had been before he moved them. I guess I should be glad about that.

Granted we won't be here for christmas, but really?

I'm so not ready for this.

Ah, but that's so sweet. He doesn't want to miss out (or have your son miss out). :001_smile:

In theory it sounds good but... we aren't leaving until the 22nd, we'll be back the 26th and we are going to my parents which will be decorated as well. It's not like we're camping in the outback with not even a candy cane to decorate with or anything...

I would love it if my husband initiated anything holiday related. Even if it was a month to early IMHO LOL

He insists on a natural tree, so we get about two weeks of tree for 2 days of effort. My effort...LOL I have to pull it all out, unwrap, dole out the correct ornaments to the correct kids, and then supervise the decorating. 2 weeks later...I take it all down.

Send him on over here! I say every year I will start earlier so I can truly enjoy the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I get so overwhelmed with shopping, cooking and parties that I would love to have all the decorating done early. However, I might get tired of looking at it for two months. Once Christmas Day is over I am ready to pack it all away.

Well the good thing is it's in the living room and we spend most of our time in the family room so I'm looking at it constantly!

Wolf would be happy if we put the tree up the 24th, and took it down the 26th. :glare:

I insist that its up the wknd closest to the 12th. I started doing that when my eldest was little, b/c the 12th is his birthday, so that's what I've stuck to. I'm even nice enough that I don't start playing Christmas music until we're doing the tree.

Funny, Wolf doesn't complain if I start Christmas baking early though

I'm with Wolf!

We've* always engaged in some negotiation, but we aren't too far apart. But 10 days of decoration is about my limit; more than that and I start to get twitchy. It does lead to a pleasant division of labor, though. The husband and kid like to choose and decorate the tree, while my fun comes from wrapping everything up, putting it away in color-coded bins, then vacuuming and putting my furniture back where it belongs. Now that's a party!

* That would be my husband and I, not Wolf and I...

Ha ha, that is so funny, and actually really cute! TBH, I wish my dh had some of that in him, I have to do ALL the decorating by myself for Christmas- lights, tree, garlands, shopping, wrapping,*everything*!! I would be SO happy if dh would do some of that for me! :) He grew up in a very anti Christmas house, and while he now enjoys Christmas, he still doesn't get at all excited about it, he just tolerates mine. ;)

Am I the only one who tripped over this sentence?

:lol:That is what caught my eye too. I couldn't believe it took all the way to comment 15 to be mentioned. Anyhow, I just returned from shopping. Whole Foods and the other grocery store both have up their Christmas candy displays. I guess Christmas season is here!?!

Sounds like ME a few years ago. It drove my husband batty. We finally came to a happy compromise: I decorate the house sometime around Thanksgiving (day before, Thanksgiving day if I am not the one cooking, or the day after, usually). However, we do not put up the big (live) tree until the week before Christmas. That way, I get my little bits of Christmas and my dh gets his little bit of sanity.

At least she didn't say there weren't any autopsies to do today, so we have to go to McDonald's.

Actually he called yesterday and said there weren't any autopsies so we went Benihana's! LOL!

He's actually an oral path resident and on a two week forensic pathology rotation. But that's the thing with autopsie, it's sort of hit or miss as to what you get to do!

My husband always insisted on a natural tree, would let the kids decorate it than rearrange everything to be perfect after they went to bed. We would only get about 2 weeks worth of tree for way too much effort. We have a really small house so it was a lot of hassle finding a tree that fit well and I'd be vacuuming up pine needles for 6 months.

This year should be better. Last year I really noticed the smell of our tree and it was bothering my allergies. DS also has mild allergies but while the tree was up, he was very stuffy and rubbing his eyes a lot, which led to pink eye (which led to dh getting pink eye). Treating a kid with sensory issues with eye drops was a nightmare and I think I have dh convinced we need to buy a fake tree this year.

I would love to put the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving and take it down the week after Christmas.

A friend of mine's husband is setting up the tree but decorating it with fall ornaments for Nov. then on Thanksgiving they will switch over to Christmas.

Now mind you, her hubby is my hubby's best friend since college.

On the contrary, my husband is so NOT into holidays. He sits on the couch and watches the kids and I do all the decorating. Well he is actually watching TV but in the room. lol Before the kids were old enough to help it was just me.

I would love for hubby to get as excited as I do about the holiday fun! Even a little excited would do my heart good.

If I were working on a forensic pathology rotation, I'd be ready to put up Christmas decorations too
