Recommends for History and Science for K?

My 2 5 year olds are doing K this year. We have phonics, writing and math down so now I want to add science and history 1 day a week each. What would/do you use?

I have TOG that my 10th grader is using but feel that is way to much for how young they are. I am using FIAR for read-alouds but want to do more history and science.

So looking for recommendations. :001_smile:

Thanks

Cindy

You might like these picture books for a fun K history:

If you want it more laid out for you Heart of Dakota has activities and readings for history and science. They do have a complete curriculum but you can add in your own math/phonics/handwriting. I would say that my family liked reading "more" books then what is scheduled but this may be perfect for yours.

We are planning to add in MFW Kindergarten only for the bible and science themes. As I was saying above my kids LOVE to read so I thought the extra books listed in the new manuals from MFW would be great! I like that the activities are listed for you to do so that you don't have to come up with your own.

We are christians so disregard these choices if you don't want that in your programs.:D

K12's History K is my hands-down favorite kindergarten history program. My older kids used it, and I'm using it this year with my youngest.

The first semester is a trip around the world, exploring each continent and some of the major features of each. So far, we've been to Australia and Europe, where we learned about Germany, France, England, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy. This week, we start exploring Asia. Second semester is famous stories from American history. We do history twice a week. There are coloring pages, stories, maps and music.

The scope and sequence is here.

Library books. ;)

If you really want a curriculum... Elemental Science Intro to Science is a good choice. It's easy to get done. You can even do it all in one day, even though it's spread over 2 days. I used it on the weekends when my son was in school. I liked that it had nature study included. I learned something new about pine trees one of the first weeks! :D

How about checking out biographies from the library for history? You can do the same for science, with a few science kits like this one thrown in. We really liked the science book in Sonlight's P4/5 core (we read most of the books in that core, but didn't use the TM). Towards the end of the year you could do a prehistory unit that covers both science and history if you plan to start the 4 year cycle in first grade.
