Guest
I did a search to see if this had been posted already and did not see anything so I decided to post it. I have linked the latest Lampstand newsletter below. The newsletter includes some details on what the revisions to the Year 1 year plan entail. Thought some might find it useful :)! http://tapestryofgrace.com/company/newsletter.php ETA: Just scroll about halfway down.

serendipitous journey
... I've been deciding whether to start TOG year 1 this winter, or next autumn ... thanks so much for posting this; I hadn't noticed before that the year 1 wasn't fully redesigned ... Guest
Thanks! :) You're welcome :)! ... I've been deciding whether to start TOG year 1 this winter, or next autumn ... thanks so much for posting this; I hadn't noticed before that the year 1 wasn't fully redesigned ... Year 1 was where redesign started and naturally they got better at it with the subsequent year plans ;). You will notice that LG and UG are not affected much, so that's another thing to factor in when making your decision. Also, a very important factor is whether you are getting DE, DE/ print or just print. I would definitely not get just print. You will not have the updates, although you can upgrade at a later date. DE/ print is an option that many seem to prefer but I have just stuck with DE and it has served me well so far. I do not see the need to print anything except the SAP's that have activities (like the literature pages). Everything else, I just take notes and add comments in our schedule. Not sure if you needed this added info but I just threw it in anyway . ETA: You're welcome :D! Edited November 3, 2011 by Guest
PeterPan
What I don't get is what the schedule is. If you start into year 1 next year with DE, does that mean they'll stay a step ahead of you and have the fully streamlined, redesigned done ahead of you? Or they don't anticipate that? Guest
What I don't get is what the schedule is. If you start into year 1 next year with DE, does that mean they'll stay a step ahead of you and have the fully streamlined, redesigned done ahead of you? Or they don't anticipate that? From what I understand by reading the newsletter, they are expecting to have the first unit released in late winter early spring. This would mean that those starting next fall will not be affected since they will more than likely have all the units out on time. With DE it does not affect you too much anyway. You just do an update and the new information gets loaded in place of the old info. With print it can be tricky though. I have seen them work really hard at getting the new units out on time when they were working on the Year 4 redesign so I am sure they have a plan to stay ahead of the game. I have found that they have gone about this really well too though. Even if you end up buying an old print copy, you can just print off the pages that have changed from your DE copy (this of course, if someone buys both DE and print). I think if someone buys print only, unless they upgrade to get the updates through a DE plan, they will more than likely just be stuck with what they have. I have not seen Lampstand offer update packages with just the updated pages. I could be wrong but I don't know if it would be beneficial to go that route for them in the first place. I think that those that buy print are informed that they get just that, the printed copy of the version that is the most current at the time of printing, much like any other curriculum provider. With SL for example, if you wanted to update your IG you had to buy a new one but they did give it to you at half price. Since I have not bothered with the printed copies at all I am not sure how that works with Lampstand though. Perhaps someone else could shed some light. I would ask Lampstand directly too though :). PeterPan
Yeah, I got lost in all that discussion about how it was going to affect co-ops and couldn't even figure out something as simple as what would be ready for a new user. :) But that's ok, we may diverge and do a Pilgrim's Progress unit study next year, don't know. I just keep watching TOG1 to see when that re-redesign will be ready.
Quiver0f10
I will be starting year 1 in August with print only. I emailed and asked about their schedule for releasing units. Dana replied that they expect unit 2 sometime in October. I am not sure when the last two units will be released. Now I am unsure what I will do as far as buying the new revision or just buying an older redesign. I don't want to get done with unit 2 and not have unit 3 available... PeterPan
Well it sounds like they're *trying* to keep ahead of people using it that year.

You could ask Dana what their schedule is for the rest of the units. To my knowledge they have been pretty good at keeping with release dates (remembering from stuff I read in newsletters and the forums) but I hadn't been following that closely with Year 4 at the time since we already have Years 1-3 DE and we are only on Year 1 now (second year with it and will be doing Year 2 in two years also, to include SOTW as we have been doing with Year 1 :)). Honestly though (just my personal opinion of course), since TOG is not a one level program, if I were getting print only I would wait and make sure I got the latest release. That's just what I would do of course ;)!

That's the impression I am getting, that they are working to keep ahead of those that will be using it for the 2012-2013 school year and like I said, I believe they have been pretty good at meeting deadlines with previous redesign plans. I don't remember ever reading that they had to extend a deadline but I could be wrong. Well I think we will be ok then schedule wise. I am going to start our TOG year a bit later then our regular school so we should be ahead of their release dates. I really would prefer to get the newest version if I can so waiting to start makes the most sense to me. Marcia was trying to explain why the Year 1 plan is slightly different than the other redesign plans but I have never seen the classic anyway so most of that just went over my head . TheAutumnOak
We are using year 1 now and I have not purchased all of the units yet...Since unit 2 is not due to change until next fall, I should be fine...I will be on year 2 by then... I am also a DE user, so I will get the updates when we get to this year again, 4 years from now ;)

I really would prefer to get the newest version if I can so waiting to start makes the most sense to me. I would most likely have done the same too. We have been using Year 1 since last year (I added other things to cover local requirements and kept adjusting to find what works best for us so we only covered one unit), this is why I have stuck with the old one and am not too worried with the revision. I think we have found what works for us now and I only have a LG student anyway, so no biggy for us either way. Hope it all works out for you :).
