I don't have that one, but my son was given a K'nex set for his birthday last year and I won't be buying any more: the stupid thing won't stay together!! He'd like to play with it, but it comes apart ever 1.2 seconds (at least) - even when an adult is doing it. NOT FUN. We love the Kid K'nex, but won't be getting any more of the regular K'nex.

We have one of the tubs, which is filled with the sturdier regular K'nex and several of the roller coasters, which are usually the "micro" K'nex (one has a mix). I *hate* the micro K'nex. My then 7-year-old could not assemble them himself, and I broke several of them assembling them for him. (The company was good about replacing them, though.)

My now 9-year-old still does not play with them, but his 7-year-old sister does. She doesn't build roller coasters; she makes people. She plays mostly with the sturdier regular K'nex from the tub (and the one roller coaster.)

Were I ever to spend money on K'nex again, I would not get one of the sets from the local store. I would instead get one of the "education" sets like this or this. I've seen these at a local "educational toys" store and they are filled with the regular K'nex, rather than the micro. I won't be tempted, though, until my son is closer to 11ish. His small motor skills are getting better, but aren't quite there yet.

We bought this set on sale last spring. After sitting in our living room in various stages of construction for 6 months, I finally gave up and disassembled it. My son (7 at the time) could help with the assembly, but the instructions were not clear enough and the pieces too tricky too keep together for him to assemble alone. So it pretty much became a mom project, which I did not need.

Had we ever actually completed the thing I'm sure it would have been neat, but I can't imagine it staying together long enough to last very long--just a little bump could disconnect a whole section.

I'm glad we got it on clearance, but sorry we spent any money on it at all. It's garage sale fodder now.

We had a K'nex rollercoaster about 12 years ago. It was a great project for dh and ds to work on, but it took up so much room! And, once it was up, it was kinda boring. He remembers it, tho, and the times they had putting it together. For us, it had value as a memory-builder, but not much as a toy.

We had a roller coaster. I'm not sure if it is this one. Beware of any kits that use the smaller K'nex pieces. They do not stay together. My son built it, but he basically made up the track layout himself because he could not get the directions to work. And my kids can build anything.

I'd get something else.

:iagree:

DS got one of the K'Nex rollercoasters last year and it did not go together as per the instructions and he's a kid who can build anything! He just wound up doing his own thing and it was fun, but once built, it was taken down and all the pieces just mixed in with other pieces.

Ds8 got the roller coaster as a birthday gift. I ended up putting it together. The chain never stayed on right. The track didn't work the way it was supposed to. It's in a giant ziplock bag in his closet. I don't know what to do with it. Sorry, OP, not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure. Maybe your experience would be better.

Yep, this was almost word for word our experience.
