katnorman
Does anyone do reading comprehension in 2nd grade?? We are doing Beyond the Code now and my dd really enjoys it, but I'm wondering if it's needed as we go on? What do you use if you do do it? Thanks!! katnorman
I was just thinking that as I typed my OP. We do narrations for WWE and SOTW and that really is reading comprehension :D Thank you!
Aurelia
We also do narrations or just talk about the book or story.

Aloha2U
In addition to narrations, we're using McCall Crabbs Standard Test Lessons in Reading A-E for reading comprehension, but I purchased the individual books (A-E) from Silvia Mondragon (a SWR Trainer) of SEM Educational Services. Critterfixer
I wanted something a little beyond our typical narrations this year, so I invested in Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension for both boys. They both enjoy it used in concert with our CW Aesop. The questions are helpful for one of my boys who struggles with sequencing, and challenge the other with more depth. An example from this week came from a reading of The Ant and the Dove. The question-Find other generalizations in the story, the example being " one good turn deserves another." We got into a semi-humorous discussion about how you tend to take from a story what you see in it, and my more linguistic son came up with "It isn't a good idea to go dove hunting while standing on a fire-ant nest." It's a little beyond a standard retelling, and I like having a resource to look at for more in depth analysis should I want it.
rocketgirl
My 2nd grader likes the quizzes on Book Adventure.com, and we are beginning to do book reports, but all just for fun.
