Do your kids play an instroment? What one

Recommended Posts

Ds12 plays cello.

Dd9 plays viola, violin, and piano.

Dd5 is a "twinkler" on the cello.

Dd-almost-2 *thinks* she can play all of the above. Heh. (Actually, she holds her big brother's cello/bow very carefully and can even bow a "Mississippi Stop Stop" rhythm all by herself!

DD is finishing up her second year of Violin. Next year she'll start piano too.

DS1 will start violin next year too and is excited!

Our plan is for all the kids to learn violin and piano at least basically well. Music is a non-negotiable in this house. I would love to gently encourage one of them to learn Cello too, but finding a teacher is difficult around here!

Sara Maria - violin - 10 years - plays on worship teams

Grace - viola - 8 years, violin - 2 years before she started viola, is going for a music scholarship

Adelyn - violin - 10 years, has played in orchestras and is hoping to do this again next year

Josiah - played cello for 3 years - agony for us all

Cameron - played violin for 3 years - wasn't bad but not so important to him

Piper - plays piano and viola - both for 2 years

Katya - just started piano this year

DS3- flute, harp, classical guitar, beginning tuba

Your three year old plays the flute, harp, guitar, AND tuba? Seriously???

ETA: Never mind. I read a bit more and found out that you were just teasing.

(Those are all difficult instruments to find toddler-sized, aren't they? I should have guessed you were teasing!)

My 6 year old son started violin over the summer after playing piano for a year. He tolerated piano but absolutely loves violin. My 4 year old will start piano when he turns 5.

I teach violin, viola and piano, and I want my kids to have a music education through elementary school as part of their regular education. After 5th grade they can switch to other instruments or whatever, but they need to play long enough on one instrument to be proficient before they move on to something else.
