Michiganers, I loved the Grand Rapids lipdub video!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone posted this? Back in January, Newsweek listed Grand Rapids as one of 10 dying American cities. The people actually living in Grand Rapids responded with this video, which had me actually bawling. Partly because of their wonderful community spirit, and partly because the video doesn't really refute the designation. This could never have been done in my semi-alive city in the middle of the day. Still, God bless Grand Rapids.

It is pretty great lib dub. I might have posted about it back when it was made. Both of my sons have gone to the college that did the lib dub and one is still currently enrolled there.

Currently there is the 3rd Art Prize competition going on. There is art literally all over Grand Rapids.

ArtPrize® is a radically open competition. Open to any artist in the world who can find space. Open to anybody in Grand Rapids, Michigan who wants to create a venue. Open to a vote from anyone who attends.

A couple of the things in the lib dub were reference to previous Art Prize entries. We haven't made it out to see the art yet this year, but hope to maybe this weekend.

You know what? I'm going to unabashedly bump this because I agree, that is one great video! Thanks for saying that, Tibbie. For us "locals" it's a blast to spot familiar faces and locations on the video. LOVE Meterologist George!

I didn't pay much attention to Grand Rapids until recently...for us, it was always just the city we drove to to get to the airport. But we are starting to spend more and more time there and finding out just what a vibrant downtown area they have! I love driving through there and seeing the mix of the modern highrises with the old churches and brick warehouses. Beautiful city with so much to offer.

ArtPrize competition (voting ends today!) and that video are two of the best things to happen to GR lately. We are headed there this afternoon for a doctor appointment, and hope to spot some of the ArtPrize entries. (Last year's big metal pig is still downtown and up for sale last I knew!)

We live aboutg 45 minutes away but were there Tuesday night for the Red Wings hockey game and for specialists (top notch hospital) for the girls.

GR has its issues but I think that ArtPrize is a huge boost. Too bad it has rained much of the time this past week. We hope to get there this weekend or next week. It is a great opportunity to see all styles of art in a very informal setting.

The pig was dismantled just before the current Art Prize competition started. I don't know where it ended up tho.
