Dianne-TX
I've read some things about this, but does anyone else have any experience with this or know anything they could share as a more "IRL" kind of explanation? I'm going to an internist next week. The blood work was done to try and figure out why I am swelling and stiff in my left foot/ankle. It's almost been a month. Uric acid levels were normal, glucose was normal, cholesterol was great, thyroid seemed fine (somewhat on the lower end of their range, but active), everything else was good. The last test to do, that I can think of, is an U/S or other test of my leg to check circulation/vein health.
kalanamak
It is an extraordinarily non-specific acute phase reactant, which rises in burns, viral infections, pregnancy, and a whole host of other things. It is sometimes uses as a dis-marker (that is, it is not elevated) in connective tissue disorders, like scleroderma. The value of this lab test needs to assessed in conjunction with other labs, a good physical exam, a good history, and a doc with his/her mind on the job.
