What app do you use for calorie counting, weight loss, etc...????

I have Livestrong but I am not thrilled with it. It is ok.

 

I downloaded the Sparks-people app for free but it looks like you need wifi to use it? It won't work off line?

 

Any others?

 

BTW: Livestrong and Sparks people (when I entered the same info) gave me VERY different calorie amounts to eat per day! :glare:

I'm using Diabetes Buddy. It was $4.99 about a month ago. I don't usually pay for apps, but I am so glad that I did with this one.

 

Not only can I track my blood glucose levels, I can also track the following:

-carbs/calories/fiber/sugar/protein/sodium

-blood pressure

-water intake

-exercise

-medications

-weight

 

The food tracking portion works without internet access. It has a lot of common foods listed, as well as brand name items, and restaurants. You can also input your own items, as well as recipes. You can save any item to a favorites category to make it easier to find.

 

It will show you graphs of your progress and you can email a spreadsheet to yourself or your doctor.

Do you have a device that you can use with apps?

 

I really want to track all of this on my ipad. I have used the pen and paper method, but I really want to track fat grams and carbs and something that will track automatically and even have weekly totals would be more of what I would like to have.

I tried the online programs but what works best for me is a little memo pad from the drugstore. Plus a food scale and caloriecount.com.

You know what I wish existed? An App for the very old WW program where they used exchanges. When I stuck to the old plan of 2 fruits, 2 slices of bread, 2 cups of milk, etc.....that actually worked.

 

Does the Diabetes app do the above? Is it more like exchanges?

No. Diabetes Buddy gives you the actual calories/carbs/sugar/fiber/sodium/protein.

 

You tell it the maximum number of carbs you want to consume each day and it shows you a bar with the number under it so you can easily see how many you have consumed and how many mor you are allowed.

 

For the water consumption, it shows you pics of empty glasses, then when you click one, it turns blue.

 

I think this is a good app even for someone that is not a diabetic. Each component is separate and you just click on the one you want to track.

 

There is a free version so you can see what it looks like, but it does not allow you to input everything. Check out the free one, and if you like it, you will need to buy the full version.

Ok, looked at the Diabetes App (free version) and you have to scroll through hundreds of foods to find what you have eaten.

 

Is there a place to just type what you ate and have it find it easily? That is one thing I like about Livestrong.

I use LoseIt. It is a free app and works offline.

 

This is the same app I use. It works great to help me stay on a balanced meal plan without making things complicated. I lost 45 lbs using it from September 2010 to February 2011 when I found out I was pregnant. Now I am using it to make sure I stay healthy and eat well for the baby. I also like that it will help me lose my baby weight once he comes in October.

Ok, looked at the Diabetes App (free version) and you have to scroll through hundreds of foods to find what you have eaten.

 

Is there a place to just type what you ate and have it find it easily? That is one thing I like about Livestrong.

There is a search feature. Maybe it doesn't work in the free version. Also, when you find your item, if it is something you eat often, you save it to your favorites.

Ok, that does the same or even a bit less than the one I am using and it is small/not full screen.

 

I know I am being picky.

At the bottom right corner of the screen, there is a little circle with '2X'. Click it and the app will go full screen.

Yes but then it is blurry.

 

It also only works standing up.

 

My case only holds the ipad up the long way and then I use a keyboard.

 

Minor things, yes.

 

I will play with it more tomorrow and see if it does more of what I would actually like it to do, like have a calorie limit and show me how many more calories and fat and carbs I can eat for the day based on my set perameters.
