HST question - the weekly planner ...

Recommended Posts

BTW, thank you for the push to hit the checkout button. Oh heavens, this was so worth it!

I began creating lesson plans. I set up the LP Schedule. I submitted assignments.

What I wonder is how or what is the purpose of the weekly planner? I am not sure if I grasp the full scope of its use. To my understanding, you submit assingments to the weekly planner. And ....

Why? LOL

Oh, figured out the reports feature as well. Yup, does exactly what I would like to do and so much more. Awesome!

Let me know what cool things you have figured out and done too. I have the manual, but gosh it is over 300 pages.:glare:

What Weekly Planner?

Okay. I found it.

I submit lessons directly to the Assignment tab under each student. I submit them for the year then print them out per day slash week.

I also printed the 300 page manual. (I prefer to read off line.) It was not much help to me. Did you join the forum on their site? They have a few yahoo groups, too.

Are you trying to tell me that another forum other than the Hive exists? :P

I was going to do the same that you did too. I suppose that I should seek out this forum. I thought we knew everything here, LOL

do you have a favorite on yahoo? Going to join their forum.

I haven't used HST long, but the weekly planner is for discrete weekly assignments, similar to the assignment grid but not tied to the lesson planner. I've used it for spelling, as I use "Natural Speller." I've created a spreadsheet with the words and definitions, populate a form in Word, then tie it to the weekly planner. This way I don't have to do a whole years worth of spelling words when I'm creating my annual lesson plan. I don't use it for any other subject. The forums on HST have been very helpful when I have any questions about using the program. I've been very pleased with it thus far.

I put the extra curriculars in there (guitar on Wednesdays, Fencing Mon & Wed) etc. I also put in things we do every day - like watch the CNN student news, so that it can be added to history hours. Anything I want to keep track of that happens at the same time every week/day/etc.

^ This is what I've always used the weekly planner for, also.

When I did Ambleside Online, I used the Weekly Planner. Their schedule said read this many pages this week, this many pages this week, etc, etc. Now that I use MFW, I use the Lesson planner and the Weekly Planner. I think it depends on how things are scheduled in the TG's and whether or not you want to use two different things to schedule your week. I like the Lesson Planner to schedule things like A Beka Math, or spelling. I like the Weekly Planner to schedule things that rotate or that we don't use every day.

Clear as mud?

Blessings!

So where does this stuff, ie CNN watching, music lessons, etc show up once you put in on the Weekly Planner?

I mean, I have been doing LP's, then Submitting them each week (afraid to plan to far ahead, lol). So then those submitted LP's show up on the Student: Assigments.

Then I go to Reports, and print out the weekly assignments.

But I am wondering once you set up your Weekly Planner, how does that interact with Assignments, or Reports? Are they merged somewhere so it is all one sheet? Or would it only show ons a Report, and if so, which one?

From Assignments, you can highlight and click to send to Weekly too! So, if you made actuall entries on the Weekly for items like CNN or guitar lessons, they merge. :)

I have been playing about ;) I am going through goals, activities, and so forth now. I need to find a use for the journal.

What do you all use the journal for? LOL

Gosh, this thing is heaven! I was so used to Excel after 10 plus years that I finally just decided I wanted a program. (If you don't have, run now. Right now. Click the checkout and fall in love.)

This is my first year using to also. I love it (although I think you might love it just a little more then me) but I can't imagine trying to use it if I hadn't had the better part of the summer to figure it out. I think I've got the basic down now but I hope to be much better this time next year.

IIRC, You submit your weekly planner items to the assignment grid, much like your LPs, then they will also show up on your report for weekly assignments.
