Liz CA
which one of the many books/guides are most helpful? I am giving one to my ds and his girl friend. They are thinking of looking outside of CA because cost of living and economic situation in the state are bad. The only one that comes to my mind is Barron right now, what are the others? Any specific recommendations? :)
justamouse
Hands down the very best college book is by Loren Pope, COLLEGES THAT CHANGE LIVES. If they take nothing away from it, they may think more about what exactly they are wanting from their college experience.

creekland
My favorites are Fiske and Choosing the Right College mainly because both give a "feel" for the college. Online Princeton Review is also good (and Choosing the Right College is also online). Princeton Review does all colleges (or at least they seem to) online. I don't think their books do. Fiske and Choosing the Right College only do the top ______. They number in the hundreds, but not "all" are included. The college my oldest son chose (small, Christian, but better incoming stats than most Christian colleges) is generally not in the non-inclusive books even though many with lesser stats are. I have no idea how they pick and choose who to include or leave out.
Riverland
Collegeboard dot com has LOTS of useful information on individual colleges.
Barbara H
Another vote for Fiske and Colleges that Change Lives. I would also suggest Princeton Review's Paying for College Without Going Broke.
