helena
:001_smile: She says anything that explodes, bubbles, or fizzes would be a good thing. Any suggestions? I'm open to books, kits, websites etc. :lurk5:
3girlssofar
:bigear: My 9.5 yo dd has asked for the exact same thing! I'm looking forward to seeing the responses.

helena
There are lots of great kits at Home Science Tools. I've held off on finalizing my Home Science Tools and Rainbow Resources orders hoping to find something. Problem is that I'm always choosing duds or so-so kits. It's not my specialty.. :D :bigear:
MamaJo
When my oldest was smaller he did one with some old film canisters and alka-seltzer tablets. He put part of tablets and water in a canister and sealed it tight then timed how long it took it top blow and charted how high it went. It was a lot of fun. zenjenn
We've done so far: - homemade bottle rockets (we have an air compressor) - dry ice experiments (put it in water, press a spoon to it, let it dance on a smooth surface. Great for a lesson in sublimation) - the classic baking-soda-and-vinegar "volcano"
NittanyJen
Science Wiz chemistry kits, Chem+ specifically. Mentos and Coke-- have him test Coke vs Diet Coke, number of mentos, temperature of Coke, etc. Adventures With Atoms And Molecules (book). Good stuff. Huge trashcan, a few cups of baking soda, lots of vinegar. Bonus-- you end up with a clean trash can.
helena
Backyard Ballistics? Thanks! I just added it to my RR order. I remember reading some threads about this a while back. I can't wait to check it out.
helena
YAY! Great suggestions, I'm getting excited! Making something explode in a trashcan sounds about right. :001_smile: I'm adding books and a Science Wiz Chem kit. I've never heard of this company. Thanks everyone- :bigear:
