Movie suggestion for boys 6-15 about sports - no bad language

Recommended Posts

I am hoping someone has a good suggestion for a movie (preferably sports) that Cub Scouts AND Boy Scouts will like, so it must appeal to boys ages 6-15 and it can't have any bad language at ALL...other than some potty humor. This is hard since most movies without any bad language are really targeted at young kids...which bums me out! An old Disney movie or whatever from 30-50 years ago would be fine, too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Now I'm thinking "Flubber" - wasn't that sports?!

Miracle? The one with Kurt Russell about the 1980 US Olympic team beating the Russians. I don't think there's any language, it's only PG, but I'll check IMDB and be back.

Edit: NM, here's what IMDB says: At least 24 hells, 4 asses, 4 ****s, 2 craps, 3 uses of "Oh my God" and 1 use of "Swear to God." So I'm thinking, no

"Hoosiers" and "Miracle" both have some minor bad language. "Hoosiers" in particular would not be for the younger kids. Great movie though.

Look into "Pistol" - story of Pistol Pete Marovich. Good movie, and although I haven't seen it in years, I don't recall any bad language. IMO an above average sports movie for kids that never got much love.

Going a bit old school...

"Gus" - Disney movie about Gus, the football kicking mule. Don Knotts, etc., and still a family favorite even with our older boys. Circa 1976 or so. Very campy (obviously).

"The World's Greatest Athlete" - 1973 Disney movie about a decathlete.

A couple of others to look into include "Little Giants" (definite potty humor, not sure about the language) and "Mighty Ducks" (ditto).

Oh, great ideas! Thanks! And someone suggested "Space Jam" and that looks good.

"Space Jam" should be fine, but might be a little iffy for the older kids. I enjoyed it though.

Check on the language in Pistol: Birth of a Legend". If it is okay, I can't recommend it enough. You can find some clips on YouTube which will give you a feel for the movie. It is based on a true story, which makes me like it a bit more than the others.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'm suggesting they choose from "Gus", "World's Greatest Athlete" and "Space Jam".

Some of these movies sounds excellent - like "Pistol". And "Rookie". But I don't think the younger kids will sit through them. But good to know about since I'm always looking for good sports movies for my older son to watch with friends over here. These look great! They loved "Remember the Titans" (older ds) last year.

It's not sports, but a movie my boys loved about Boy Scouts from 1966 was "Follow Me Boys". It was a little slow for a group of 7 boys, but they loved it enough that one of them signed up with our troop the next day! Fred Macmurray stars in it.
