Jeannie in NJ
we are looking at moving. Most of the houses we are looking at do not have sunroooms. We have 2 (upstairs and downstairs) where we live now and they (especially the downstairs one is our most used room) so would really like our new house to have one. We would have to have it built for us as dh is NOT handy at all. We live in South Jersey and I know prices will probalby be more expensive in NJ than in most states. We just turned our sunporch (already had a stone floor and screens) into a glassed-in four season sunroom for about 12 thousand dollars. We are in Maryland. kahlanne
I live in Louisiana and called to have our sunroom rebuilt. It was one of those kit type, simple white metal with windows on three sides and two doors. It doesn't have heating or air. To get the same type sunroom the price would start at $20K. I couldn't believe it. In the end dh notched out part of the kneewall for a window air conditioner and covered the outside with cedar siding. we will put beadboard over the interior walls and add indoor/outdoor carpet. This will be a fraction of the cost and look so much better. My understanding the roofing is the biggest cost.
Jeannie in NJ
we have already accepted that we will probably have to buy a house without a pool and have one put in (no houses with pools are listed where we want to buy even tho lots of houses here have pools, just none for sale right now) but then if we also have to put in a sunroom. The costs will start adding up.Dh said that as soon as we find a house we want to buy, we can lower the price we are asking for our house (he does not want to sell before we find a house).Actually we can't sell without having a house to move into since we have 8 cats so of course no renting or staying with anyone. I know just be patient and the perfect house will come along.
Carrie12345
I just had some literature sent to me. The options/needs vary so widely. A small sunroom with an existing foundation (cement, decking, what have you) can start at around $3600. They can go into the tens of thousands, easily. Ginevra
My off-hand thought was $20K and I am in Maryland, which is probably fairly comparable in price. But of course it will depend on what you want. I do think there are kit-style sunrooms that are probably a lot less, but those are not integrated to look like a part of the house. They are more like a tag-on off-shoot frame with glass/plexiglass windows.
