Raising Little Shoots
What would you recommend as the most thorough spelling curric? I have always been a terrible speller, having been taught in the most strange way in Britain in the '70's  I am looking for a thorough, logical curric. We have begun with Spelling Workout & I have no problems with it & will finish the book, but i am looking around at other options. Apples & pears seems to be a good option. I would really like to get some opinions. Thank you!
Kalmia
I think Spell to Write and Read is comprehensive and has all you need for 12 years in one package. There is lots of work on phonemes and rules. It's spelling lists are based on word frequency. There is a learning curve for the parent in implementing this program, but it is time well spent. How to Spell is also good, particularly because the words in the list are chosen to reflect the rule or phoneme being taught. People also rave about All About Spelling, but I haven't tried it yet. Raising Little Shoots
thank you for your reply. I have looked briefly at Write and Read & was utterly confused by what I would need to purchase! I need to spend some free time reading about this program. Thank you again Kalmia
Ellie
Spalding and its spin-offs (Spell to Write and Read, Phonics Road, a couple of others) are the most comprehensive spelling methods.
Raising Little Shoots
interesting, thank you. How easy is this method to implement? Does the book explain well what to do?
SnMomof7
We are a family that uses AAS for..well, everyone. It is the most thorough, logical, easy-to-use spelling method I've ever seen. It is open and go so it's super easy to use - it is even multi-sensory. SWR has more of a learning curve for teachers so it doesn't work for me :). AAS is very much intensive Orton-Gillingham phonics and is very sound.
