Start by reading The Well-Educated Mind by Susan Wise Bauer, How to Read a Book by Mortimer Adler, and/or How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster. If you are new (or new-ish) to serious reading of classics, these will help you persevere and get the most out of them. None of those are online, but your library has them.

There are a LOT of great books lists out there, and the internet being what it is, someone has collected a bunch of them in one place. http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/greatbks.html I would especially recommend The New Lifetime Reading Plan list if you want to read world literature.

Also, invest in an ereader if you haven't already, most of these older classics can be had for free if you have one. Good luck and enjoy!
