One Last Google Spin-off: What Ads Follow You?

Recommended Posts

Have you noticed an advertisement following you around on your web searches?

I have. It is for a new Fiat 500 automobile. It love these (so they are very smart to torment me with the ads :tongue_smilie:)

Part of the appeal is I love saying "Cinquecento" with an Italian accent :D

So, what is following YOU. And do you "covet" the item?

"Obama" keeps telling me that as a stay at home mom, I CAN get loans to go back to school and get a good job and earn lots of money.

I have a degree, I have a job teaching my kids, I don't want to make lots of money, and I'm pretty sure Obama did not tell them anything of the sort :D

Can you buy one of those in the US? The last time I saw one ('85), two average American citizens would not fit, but somehow a whole Italian family managed to get in one.

So it is safe to say we have one example of "marketing genius," and one flop? :D

:iagree: This one... as well as the one saying I'm spending too much on car insurance and there's this new law that proves it.

Me too, and they feature cave men types -- I don't see the connection to Obama or moms with that one.

I looked up some computer thing once and then it popped up in an ad, but that's all I've noticed. I do seem to get a lot of matchmaking and weight loss garbage, but I spend no time searching of compatible singles in my area or weight loss / bikini stuff, so I don't know why I get so many of those except I assume everyone does.

Just released in the USA. I've seen one (so far) on the roads of Los Angeles.

They are a "new" retro version, designed by Frank Stevenson who designed the new MINI Cooper. The current 500 is much bigger than the old ones, but still small.

Nope, I don't see any ads. :)

I have admuncher, so no ads. It's lovely.

However, I just did this:

I just went to google and typed in an "f." All the fiat dealers in my area popped up, along with pictures of the new fiat 500. :-)

I wonder what will happen with each letter of the alphabet.

:001_huh:

I feel stalked. Everyone of the drop down items were either places I've been or local places I might go (including all banks I use). I don't love that at all. And I just cleared my cache and history last night.

Interesting. I put in f to see what would come up, and it was all Facebook. I'm not on FB, but I'm guessing that is the most common search word beginning with f.

Hmm, I get Ford, as I was looking at the Ford Leaf not too long ago.

I also get the Wikipedia entry for the letter F (today's Internet brought to you by the letter F)

Click "privacy" on the main search page. Google clearly explains everything there and provides the links to set your preferences.

I like having local pages given preference. :001_smile:

I don't really use google, but the bing/yahoo/facebook trio seems to think I really need to know about Ally Bank, since a couple weeks ago I checked what their fee policy is, since they aren't B & M. I forget what it was before that. Their ads aren't annoying, so I may keep going to the Ally Bank site once a week to keep its ad in place. :)

I have no idea why but I am constantly haunted and hounvery with a very confusing combination of birth control, diapers, and Viagra in email spam and site ads.:001_huh:

With ten children it's not a bad marketing strategy :D

I get an ad for single men, 30-39. I have tried to figure out what internet habits I have that make me look like a cougar, but I have yet to come up with anything.

Also, I signed up for the GRE for August, and I keep getting ads for the GRE now. Ummmm, I already signed up. What's the point of that?

Right now, Walt Disney World is ubiquitous as I make my way around the internet.

Previously, a rather pricey moisturizer was "covering" me :)

I find it a bit creepy.

Oops! Forgot to add: While I wouldn't use the word covet, I do enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort and I'm quite fond of the moisturizer mentioned.

I'm resurrecting an old thread because...of all things...I'm being followed around by ads encouraging me to attend Liberty University online

Bill

Oh, they really missed that one didn't they?

I didn't realize it was an old thread until I came to this post of yours. I'm another one with Adblock Plus. No ads for me. Yay!

I get the "Obama sends moms back to school" one a lot, too.

Just released in the USA. I've seen one (so far) on the roads of Los Angeles.

These are SO cute. We have two dealerships selling them locally, and I truly do covet one. However, I recently moved from my beloved MINI Clubman to a Scion xB because I needed four doors and more room for my teens and their friends. So, a 500 is probably a bad idea.

I tried to talk my husband into looking at them, but he opted to stick with MINI for now.

Only things I've recently been shoppping for online. This is a new computer, so there isn't a long history of me doing searches.

a washing machine - which I've already purchased and is now installed. I don't need another. I'm kinda tired of those.

men's dress shoes - also been ordered. Crossing fingers they fit this kid, as so far nothing has fit "right".

dansko volley's - those do tempt me, but I've tried them on in the store and they don't fit me right. Not that that would stop me. (online does have better prices)

I have add for adoption following me around but that's too be expected since I've been googling it and working on getting our paperwork together. That said, I hate the ads. Everytime I see the happy smiling face of an infant on a google ad it doesn't cheer me up, it stresses me out.
