LanaTron
I have rising 9th and 10th graders who have not done a lot of academic writing at this point. This year they did most of Wordsmith, and I saw great improvement in both of them (10th grade ds especially), but that was all creative writing. During the school year, we do a lot of extracurriculars, etc. that take us out of the house frequently, so our time for academics is limited. We normally start school the day after Labor Day. So, I am considering doing a 4-week writing intensive during the month of August, where we would do writing every day, more than one lesson/day if necessary. Then, during the school year, writing would just be across the curriculum to hone the skills. Does it make sense to do that? What skills should students at this grade level know? I have Jensen's Format Writing--would that work for such an endeavor? Any other suggestions? TIA Edited June 24, 2011 by LanaTron
