Malenki
I know it's a long shot but anyone use this chain of "independently owned" dental practices? I'd love an opinion on the quality of the service provided if you have. We have no dental insurance and while our current dentist seems competent he's also on the expensive side. (He was recommended to us by friends who have fabulous insurance.) In our quest to have our teeth cleaned at a lower cost we noticed Comfort Dental next to our grocery store and they have a family "plan". The plan would save us about $1,200 a year -- and more if we have any cavities or broken teeth and so forth since their rate is much lower than we've been paying. BUT, our big question is the quality of the dental work. Is it any good? Or will we regret cutting our costs in this manner??
Diane in CO
Let me preface this first by saying that we haven't been there, however a friend of mine went there to get a cavity filled and ended up having to go to a different dentist to get it done right (after it wasn't done right the first time at Comfort dental she did not want to go back). That being said, if you don't have a history of cavities etc, and just need general cleaning I would think that they would be a reasonable place to go. HTH! chai
When we moved to CO last fall, our insurance only covered Comfort Dental and Perfect Teeth. I searched for months (on-line and personal recommendations) to find a place that we would be happy with. I never saw a good review on them and I saw many bad ones. Comfort Dental is actually a franchise so an individual dentist buys into it. There must be some good dentists who have joined it. Based on that information and a someone-who knows someone-recommendation, I sent my dh to a CD nearby. It was so bad that he walked out--and they said that they wouldn't take our insurance anyway! We dropped our insurance and I chose our dentist by recommendation only. We are reasonably happy with our new choice. Have you looked on-line for any reviews? Just do a google-search with the dentist's name; you'll be amazed at what you can find. Once I found out that the dentist I was considering had been reprimanded by the dental board. That was a good thing to know! I think that you can tell a lot about a dentist and the practice by walking in the door. Have you done that? Then, send one of your family to be the guinea pig for a cleaning. If you like the hygenist and the dentist's manner, consider making a change for the whole family. You can always switch back to your current dentist.
Malenki
That does help, Diane! Thank you! DH and I have had the occasional cavity. Our youngest has terrible teeth, however! We really like our dentist a lot; he's competent and the office staff is really positive! We're just struggling to make our budget work. Thanks for the feedback! It helped! Malenki
Thanks Donelda!! Being so bad that your DH walked out is a terrible sign. I have a gut feeling that this isn't a good idea but it helps hearing what others have experienced. Our plan was to send DH as the guinea pig. LOL That's what we did with our current dentist, only it was me. It's his turn. :-) I haven't actually walked in or even looked in the windows yet but planned to this week when I was next at King Soopers! Thanks for taking the time to write! It helps! nancypants
Oh man, I read this as "comfort denial" and I thought it was more philosophy... but only aimed at the poor souls in CO, OH and NM!
Diana in OR
We belonged to a similar dental chain for awhile. It was horrible. Yes, our dental bills were lower, but we got lousy service, too. We finally went back to our former (and more expensive) dentist when they almost gave me a root canal on the wrong tooth, b/c they didn't want to refer me to a specialist. (I was thankful that I had a reaction to the novacaine, and they couldn't do it there.) A friend of mine went to a chain called "Gentle Dental". She told me similar stories. Malenki
Thanks Diana! It seems that these deals are definitely too good to be true. :P
