Chris in VA
Well, as no one has had time yet to respond-- I don't use software, but I did find our transcript model online. I use the one at Covenant College. Transcript help I also keep a running list of ds' reading (the history/lit selections). For grades, I do something maybe a little odd-- He keeps his tests, assignments, papers, etc in duotang/pocket folders, one for each subject. I grade his work, then he transfers the work to notebooks that are very organized with tabs and everything (so he can review if needed). On the pockets of the duotang folders, I write his percentage grades, with the date of the assignment. Every quarter, I tally up the grades and fill out a "report card," of sorts. At the end of the year, I transfer his grades to the transcript form I have, and refigure his cumulative gpa.
Alyce
I've had it for about 5 years now and we really like it. It makes my job so much easier and when I needed a transcript to send to the colleges my dd wanted to attend this fall, all I needed to do was push a button and it printed it all out nice and neat. Edu-Track gives you two ways to do your transcript, one listing by year and one listing by subject. It also figures out GPA for you so I liked that. It's also nice because I can do a daily plan, weekly plan, monthly plan, yearly plan whatever I want. If I put something on the plan and we need to move it back I can do that too without retyping everything. It also comes pre-programmed with some curriculum already built in such as saxon and it has a feature where if my dd needs to be on lesson 1 today and do a lesson a day for any length of time all I need to type in is one day's lessons and it will automatically put it in for as many days as I tell it to. The two drawbacks are the price and the fact that the GPA is unweighted and you can't do weighted grades. They keep saying they're coming out with an update but haven't. I've heart alot of good things about Homeschool tracker and know that you can get a free version if you go to their website. If you like it you can upgrade it. If they had had it when I first decided to do a computer system I would have gotten it instead.
SwimmerMom
I use Edu-Track, too. It was one of the things dh insisted on when we decided to homeschool all the way through high school. ;) I love the ease of this program. It's very intuitive in how things are entered and tracked. There are loads of different reports you can print out in addition to transcripts. Bean loves that she can print out a week's worth of assignments at once and get an idea of what she needs to get done. That way if she wants to work ahead and have a long weekend, she can do that. :D
Kareni
After having looked at many transcripts online, we ended up making one at home using Excel. (The price was right!) Regards, Kareni
