heartosunshine Posted June 7, 2011 Share Posted June 7, 2011 Our upstairs rooms are so hot even when the rest of the house is cool! We just spent lots of $ on plumbing issues & really can't bring in the a/c guys right now. We have room darkening window shades but I'm thinking of adding some type of uv film to the window and maybe even some thick drapes to help block the heat (it gets direct sun all day). Any advice? My son has the dormer room upstairs as a bedroom. Even with ductwork and two vents it still gets hot. We plan to get an inexpensive window unit. Our bedroom window is north and still gets the buildup from sun on the west facing roof so we leave the windows open all day even when it is cool at night. We had them replaced so they would accept a room A/C unit. A window A/C unit would be less expensive then adding insulation which is what it sounds like you need. Great idea, but unfortunately, we can't use our attic fan right now due to really bad allergies (mine & ds). How about a window unit for the upstairs? lisamarie Posted June 8, 2011 Share Posted June 8, 2011 When we lived in our old non air conditioned house, the upstairs would become stifling. We had a window unit in the master bedroom and the kids had ceiling fans and regular fans blowing on them. The few days that it got over 90 and didn't cool down at night we'd open all the bedroom doors and had a fan in our doorway blowing the cold air into the kids' rooms to help. It was miserable, but we got through it. I would invest in at least one window unit or else ceiling fans if you don't already have them. They do help quite a bit.
