mhg
I can’t decide which color. Which color would you prefer for a chalkboard? Black or Green? It will be 4 ft x 6 ft. (I've decided against dry erase.....already have one anyway). myfatherslily
I love black chalkboards:)
Tree House Academy
I like the green...I think they erase cleaner - the black shows even the tiniest hint of erasure.
texasmama
Green is easier on the eyes.;)
Matryoshka
I have a chalkboard with green on one side and black on the other, and I pretty much always use the green side. I don't know why, it isn't even a conscious decision, but there it is. :)
ChandlerMom
Tough call -- the black is $30 cheaper. :D If the room is a bit dim, the black may be too dark. Green is more colorful. If your room is well-lit and colorful enough, there's something about the crispness of a BLACKboard I like, esp when you use colored chalk -- more "pop". Both will show chalkdust, esp in pics. Totally an issue of preference. Since chalkboards are a bit nostalgic (at least for me and part of why I got one) you might consider if one feels better to that. :) In a toss-up, poll the kiddos or save the $30. Edited May 30, 2011 by ChandlerMom
Hunter
Black is timeless and...I don't know...just...nicer :-
specialmama
Green cleans easier, is smoother and just nicer to write on. Mind you, I'm the green I'm talking about is the real slate kind, not the paint-on kind or cheapo kind.

Satori
My initial reaction was to choose black, but after a day, I think I'd go with green. It looks cooler in a schoolroom, more colorful, bright, and cheery.
Ali in OR
Where I taught 20 years ago, we had real slate boards, black, that erased beautifully. Any newer boards were green, not slate, and did not erase well. Not sure if there is a difference if both are a modern, not-slate material. talantine
Although this may not be a problem for your children, color blind (color vision deficient) kids can have a hard time seeing colored chalk on a green chalkboard. 7 to 10% of males have some form of color vision deficiency. Having 2 color blind boys, I would go for the black. Even without any color problems, I think there is better contrast and you can use colored chalk without distortion from the green board.
