Kfamily
My dd is using First Form Latin. She likes it and would like to follow this with Second Form. I've decided to do this, but I have the Henle books and will start adding more translation for her. (I've read this is one weakness with FF.) From what I've read and understand, First Form followed by Second, Third and Fourth Form completes all that is covered in Henle I but has been simply rearranged and put in a workbook format with more practice pages. This is good for my dd so far. My questions are: 1. If we complete FF and then 2nd Form it seems we will have completed most of units 1-??? Here is the contents page from FF: http://www.memoriapress.com/descriptions/sample/FirstForm/FFlesson_TableOfContents.pdf Here is what is covered in 2nd F: http://www.memoriapress.com/descriptions/sample/Second%20Form/SFlessons_TableOfContents.pdf I'm having trouble matching what each form covers to what I see in the contents of Henle. I'm trying to see what we would have covered in Henle and where we would need to step in after 2nd form. My plan was to finish Henle from this point. 2. Also, why does Memoria Press suggest that FF equals 1 high school credit? That doesn't seem like enough for one credit. Would FF and 2nd form =1 credit? 3. Also, I've read before that even those who work through Henle stop after unit 7 or 8 and move right into Henle 2. Is this true? I was looking at buying the MODG syllabus because I know this covers all of Henle. I read on their site that all of Henle 1 (the combined syllabus that contains both a syllabus for units 1-7 and one for 8-14) = 2 credits. Please help me sort this out... I'm so confused... Sorry, I'm adding to this... I've just looked at Kolbe's plan and they also give one credit for units 1-8 roughly (L1-28) and then finish Henle 1 and lessons 1-30 for a 2nd year latin credit. I may need to tell dd to deal with her preference...hmmm....she does prefer it.... and move to either MODG or Kolbe in the fall and not do 2nd Form. I don't want to keep changing on her, but I do want to be sure she studies latin correctly and earns a true credit for her work. This is Kolbe's plan: http://www.kolbe.org/foreign_language_curriculum/ Edited May 11, 2011 by Kfamily
