I feel like a huge part of me died last week

Recommended Posts

We put our kitty, Fate (Faters, Faterkins, Boo, Big Cat) down last week. He had been ill over the past month (in addition to other health problems in the past from which he pulled through) and I had nursed him back to health but from this last decline he could not recover. The vet believes it was cancer.

This kitty had been with me for 19 years and even though I knew this was coming, I'm just devastated. Every once in awhile I remember he's gone and just not coming back and I'm just so sad. His couch cushion is so empty.

My husband and my daughter are sad but handling this much better than I am. Our other kitties seem to be ok too, even Akasha who adored Fate. I think it's probably because they saw him so sick.

I know it's only been a week and he was very important to me but I'm hoping this gets easier.

Anyway, sorry to ramble. Please say a prayer for this silly cat lady.

Thanks.

I know how you feel. I still miss my two first cat's Otto and Chelsea. They were brother and sister and passed about three years apart. Otto went first seven years ago and Chelsea just about four.

Just last Friday we had to put down our pup, Madison. She was 13 and had bone cancer. I joke she was the other wife. It has been very quiet around the house without her. Even my other two cats, Eli and Ellie have been looking for her. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry. I know what you're feeling. My old girl and I were together for 18 of her approximately 20 years (she was a stray and when I initially took her in to the vet, they estimated she was around 2 years old). I still miss her and occasionally wake up thinking I've heard her "hello!" meow.

I have the pleasure of the company of a grand little fellow now, but I still miss my old girl. There simply was no one like her.

All I can say is, treasure the memories. It will get easier and those memories will one day make you smile rather than cry. It's not silly to have loved a cat.

Our furry friends are such a huge part of our lives. They give us unconditional love and our hearts are broken when they are no longer there. The void is unbarable at times. We lost a furry friend last August and I will still tear up over it. The first few weeks were the hardest though. It does get a bit better, or maybe we just get cried out. I don't know. Like your family my dh and ds seems to handle it better. I could not even talk about it for a few days. I few things that helped me were. Making a stone marker for where we buried her in the yard. Making a picture collage for our family photo album. Cry bucket full of tears if you need too. Again I am so sorry for your loss.:grouphug:
