A home for their hearts
I came across this poem by Robert Frost and have now added a couple lines from it to my signature. What are your thoughts about it? The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference
shell in SC
That is my favorite Robert Frost poem. I did a paper on it in college. You have great taste!
Crissy
Having read this as a young adult, I wondered for a short time why, instead of living day to day, I'd not given my future more thought.

Thanks, I love poetry but hardly have time to read it. Do you have any input you would like to share?

This seems to be all I've been doing lately is just living day to day, it really does make you stop and think doesn't it?
percytruffle
Well, It is a well-loved and well-know poem. It certainly speaks to the homeschooler who has indeed ventured down the road less traveled. In that respect I find it very uplifting and encouraging. Of course, being the type of person who is a non-conformist and divergent thinker by nature, I find much truth in Frost's claim that the decision to choose the "outside the box" choice can and often does make all the difference. But, I also think there is another side to the coin. Cerainly there are times when the more traveled road is the better choice. Here you will walk in the footsteps of many great men and women that have already blazed the trail before you. Why reinvent what they have already done. Mrs Mungo
One interesting tidbit about that poem is that Frost always insisted it was about his friend, Edward Thomas. They often walked together and his friend often complained about not taking another route on their walk. Of course, it clearly has another layer of meaning but Frost's poems almost always do. The truth is-we can't take every possible path through life. We make one decision at a time and each of those decisions leads us on a specific path. It is only here, in the yellow wood where we can sit back and reflect upon it.
