X-Post- academic level worries

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm all excited to get started in the fall. My dd just turned 13 in March and will be in 8th grade. She was a little bit of a late bloomer with reading. She is just now to the point of enjoying reading for fun... She reads things like "The Witch of Blackbird Pond", "Boston Jane" and things like that... She's never done alot of heavy duty reading. We did 1/2 of Sonlight core 5 so she did all the readers with that core. Anyway, has anyone done this with a younger child? I will be doing it with her so I can read aloud, but I'm quite honestly worried about squashing her newfound love for reading with the heavier style of books in Starting Points. Any thoughts? She is now requesting to finish the other half of sonlight core 5 (which really is for up to 8th grade) but that would mean we wouldn't get to do Starting Points at all since she will begin MFW AHL in 9th grade.

Blessings

Sandra
