Susie in MS
Hi all! We are planning/hoping to go to Ken Ham's Creation Museum in a bit. IF we are able to go we will be going via I-75 from Chattanooga through TN and KY. If you are familiar with this area could you tell me what there is to see along this route? We don't mind having to detour from 75 somewhat, just maybe not over 100 miles off of the Interstate. Thanks much!!

Mom2legomaniacs
There is the Museum of Appalachia right off I-75 near Clinton, TN. That is a very interesting place to visit. Lexington -- a lot of things around there that escape me at the moment, but someone else might be able to help with. (KY Horse Park is one I think)
Angela in TN
Melissa is right!! Kentucky Horse Park is in Lexington and we've been wanting to go but haven't been able to yet. If you have horse lovers in your family go, and then let me know how it was! :) Also in Louisville (which is about and hour 15 mins from Lexington off I-75) is the Lousiville Slugger Museum and Factory. The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hills is 25 minutes from Lexington and looks neat. I'm in TN and can you believe I've never been to Kentucky?!! So many great things to do there. Have Fun! cin
Not far from the museum is CIncinnati, which has a huge assortment of fun things. The Zoo, the Aquarium (technically in KY), history museum, art museum, an omnimax theatre, and the Bodies Exhibit. And Kings Island. There's also a GREAT ballet, symphony and usually something good playing at the aranoff center. And a great school supply store in Covington--John R Green :D

Shaker Village is neat. I've been there. My family lives in that area, but it has been a long time since I visited it. Also, there are some things in Harrodsburg area that are historical. Maybe not of high interest, but could be for history buffs.
Harriet Vane
We also liked the Shaker Village.
Cinder
What? I can't believe no one mentioned Rabbit Hash, KY! Ok, there's usually nothing to do there but get a sasparilla and throw rocks into the Ohio but that was one of our sons' favorite activities when we lived there. You can see the buffalo at Big Bone Lick State Park in Union, KY. The Toyota plant in Georgetown, KY, used to give tours. You had to pre-schedule these and there was an age limit. Sorry, I don't have a phone number. Perfetti-Vanmelle (Mentos, Airheads) used to give tours--don't know if they still do. You'd have to pre-schedule. Again, sorry, no number. A friend of ours took the Mayfield Dairy tour (was this in TN or KY?) and they said it was fun. Cincinnati has some fabulous state parks for hiking, picnics. And you MUST have some Graeter's Ice Cream. There's a shop right off 75 in KY. Take the Crescent Springs exit. :D Enjoy! Cinder
angela in ohio
My top recommendations would be: Kentucky Horse Park, Cincinnati Zoo (really nice!), take a boat ride on the Ohio river in downtown Cinci, Mammoth Caves, and the Cumberland Gap area. kristavws
I am a Kentucky native, and go back several times a year to visit family. some of the places I have taken my kids (or plan to take in the future): The Museum Center at Union Terminal - http://www.cincymuseum.org/ - includes the Cincinnati History Museum, the Children's Museum, the Museum of Natural History and Science, and an Omnimax Theater. The Newport Aquarium - http://www.newportaquarium.com/ I have a budding marine biologist, so we end up visiting aquariums no matter where we visit. This is really an outstanding aquarium. I second the recommendation on the Kentucky Horse Park - http://www.kyhorsepark.com/ I personally loved Mammoth Cave as a kid - http://www.nps.gov/maca/ It is actually the longest cave system known in the world. Not far from Lexington, Natural Bridge State Park offers great hiking - http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/resortparks/nb/ The Krohn Conservatory is really neat. It is a nationally recognized showcase of more than 3,500 plant species from all over the world - http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/cityparks/pages/-3452-/ We always like to catch a Cincinnati Reds game when we visit - http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=cin It was already mentioned, but I will also recommend the Cincinnati Zoo. Despite the fact that we have a membership to our local zoo, my kids still drag us to this zoo - http://www.cincyzoo.org/ . Personally, I don't mind, as I think it is one of the best zoos. I haven't visited it yet, but my mom loves the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center - http://www.freedomcenter.org/ I haven't visited these, but you may want to check them out: Louisville Science Center Bluegrass Railroad Museum Kentucky History Center John James Audubon State Park and Museum Guntown Mountain - Guntown Mountain is an authentic re-creation of a wild west town from the days of the frontier. Kentucky Down Under - Kentucky Down Under is an Australian themed animal park. Lost River Cave - Lost River Cave has one of the largest cave openings in the Eastern United States. Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest - Within Bernheim's 14,000 acres you will find a nationally-recognized arboretum, beautiful gardens, tranquil lakes, a nature center, large expanses of scenic natural area, 30 miles of hiking trails and a 12,000-acre research forest. Cherokee Trail Of Tears Park - This historic park is one of the few documented sites of actual trail and campsites used during the forced removal of the Cherokee people to ""Indian Territory"". Kentucky Reptile Zoo - See cobras, mambas, rattlesnakes, alligators, turtles and giant pythons. Located near Natural Bridge State Park Let me know if you would like more recommendations.
