happy2homeschool
I'm trying to find resources for a 6th grader for these world history topics: 1. Development of civilization in Egypt/Nile River between 6000 - 300 BC 2. Greek civilization from the development of city-states through Hellenistic Age 3. Ancient Rome from development of Republic to fall of Rome I have no idea where to even start looking! (Would Story of the World help me or Augustus Caesar's World or ?) If you have any recommendations for books, websites, or anything else I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! Lori
Jolash
I'm sure you'll get lots of replies, so I'll start you off by suggesting the SOTW activity guide. There are lots of project suggestions, books, etc. Another thought would be to get a copy of Rainbow Resource Catalog and go through their ancient history listings. Mostlyamom
Tapestry of Grace website has interesting Arts and Activities info here: http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year1/artsactivities.php I found some really great medieval pages via the TOG compilation with pictures of famous people that we really loved, plus I've found some great field trip ideas, too. happy2homeschool
Thanks for your suggestions! In another thread I learned that Story of the World 1 has a list of books to look at too. Any favorite books that we should not miss? And do you know of a single book that would help with any or all of these topics? Many thanks!:)
riada
I don't have any one book that stands out above the rest, they have all been great. My children use SOTW vol.1 and we choose books weekly off their resource list to go a little deeper into things. There is a yahoo group for this book and they have a wealth of information, activities, suggested books, etc. there. HTH!
Janis in DE
I really like the book The Ancient Egyptains by Lila Perl. There are several books in this series about Ancient cultures. My daughter will be using these next year in 6th grade. Janis in DE
Lynn in WI
You might look for a copy of All Through the Ages by Christine Miller, (Nothing New Press). You'll find fiction and non-fiction resources listed by time period, region and reading level. http://www.nothingnewpress.com/atta.shtml
Debbie in OR
I agree with Lynn about All Through The Ages by Christine Miller and also Let The Authors Speak by Carolyn Hatcher. They are both excellent resources for finding literature for every age-range, reading level and time period. Saves me so much time!
Lenora in MD
Truthquest quides for these eras would also provide some great resources.

happy2homeschool
Thanks for these suggestions. :) I'm going to start looking at these books tonight. And I had no idea there was a yahoo group for SOTW 1 -- I just joined!
