Country Girl
Does anyone use an electronic encyclopedia that they would recommend? The two that seem to be top runners are the World Book Encyclopedia http://www.amazon.com/MacKiev-World-Book-Multimedia-Encyclopedia/dp/B003CWQ69M/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299017446&sr=1-1-fkmr0 and the Encyclopedia Ultimate Reference Suite http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Britannica-Ultimate-Reference-DVD-ROM/dp/1615354336/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1299017042&sr=1-2. Anyone used either of these, or a different one, and can comment? Thanks!

Susie in CA
We have The Encyclopedia Britannica. It works fine, but to be honest, we don't use it a whole lot. I think that is because we can find almost everything on-line anyway (not just wiki). Susie
Country Girl
Thanks for the feedback. Some of the reveiws on Amazon seemed to indicate that Britannica was better for adults than children, but I think I will give it a go.
Hunter
I prefer hardcopy volumes, but I also like to have a few copies of CD ROMS that are just a couple years out of date and can be purchased cheaply. Subscriptions to online encyclopedias are often available through your library, and accessed through your library card number. Otherwise I think they are about $10.00 a month. My library discontinued this due to budget cuts. World Book is much easier to read than Britanica.

Anyone used either of these, or a different one, and can comment? Thanks! We have the World Book Encyclopedia from a few years ago (2008?). It was a main resource when we did Sonlight Core 5. We were using it every day and I felt like it was a perfectly acceptable reference for my kids (who were then 4th and 5th with good reading ability). There were several features that they liked to muck around with, like the timeline and this date in history. We haven't used it much lately. We should probably get back to it. I honestly tend to use Wikipedia as a source to give us the correct phrasing and dates to use for future research on more footnoted sites. Thanks, I went ahead and ordered the World Book Encyclopedia. Since we are moving oversees in 3 weeks, I figured this would be a valuable resource to have on hand.
