Enough
I recently pulled my son out of school and it is obvious that he is more than 'quirky'. :001_huh: He has been evaluated for and diagnosed with SPD, approximately 3 years ago. I think he may have other educational/learning disabilities issues, and possibly anxiety or depression. I suspect gifted as well. Where do I even START? Can a psychologist do all of this testing? Even the testing specific to learning? Or do I need to find multiple professionals? Thank you in advance!
Misty
A psychologist is a good place to start to identify things like Asperger's, depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, gifted, etc.. but they will not be able to identify specific learning disabilities in most cases. If you suspect learning disabilities and you really want to have an eval for this.. Then your best bet would be a neuropsychologist. A neuropscyh will evaluate for everything. SweetMissMagnolia
we mentioned we wanted him tested to our pediatrician and he referred us to a PEDIATRIC BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST (psychologist) and we went from there-we did a first visit then the evaluations--we've been seeing her about a year or so now........... Just clarifying- a neuropsych will evaluate for Asperger's, depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, gifted, AND learning disabilities? It's a one-stop shop if we see a neuropsych? (I would love to see just one person, so I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. :))

The only things a neuropsych may not be able to assess for you is sensory-related issues and maybe specific motor skill issues. An OT would be good for that.
