stephanie
This is still in the works, but I'd like to hear what y'all think. I'm more concerned about the LA area so let me know if it looks sufficient. Amy loves Bud
Looks like a good plan. I'm not very familiar with LLATL, but two things pop into my mind - Does this teach writing? If not, do you think you need a writing program? and Will it be redundant with ILL? If so, is that okay with you or do you need to adjust the two programs for that purpose? Also, did you plan on science? We kind of went the way of learning about things as they come up rather than a set curriculum for it this year, and it worked well. So you don't need a program unless you really want one. It looks like you have a good year planned. Amy
Sue G in PA
Looks terrific! I think that ILL would be the perfect compliment to LLATL. Will you be doing science (is that included w/ Beautiful Feet...I'm not familiar w/ that program) at all? As for writing...I think the dictation and copywork in ILL would be enough. Plus, LLATL does have dictation as well AND "some" writing. You could add another writing program, but it certainly is not necessary IMO. Oh, and there is also dictation/copywork in Simply Spelling. I wouldn't add another writing program...seems like you have it more than covered. I would only caution that since you have 3 programs that use dictation...try to plan it out so that you don't have dc doing too much in one day/week, KWIM? That would be my only suggestion. Looks perfecto!

I try not to double subjects if I can help it -- too much confusion to coordinate them, and confusing and frustrating to ds as well. I'd keep the cursive, though, as practise is always good on that, especially with my ds whose handwriting needs lots of practise! I might toss in something along the lines of Writing Strands, though. LLATL does have writing in it, but from what I remember, they were on the very brief side and maybe you'd want something more there. Also, you might want something for science -- if you're following WTM science rec's, then it would be a physics year. I'm loving REAL Science for Kids Physics I, but it doesn't last a whole year. With that you could do some unit studies, perhaps on inventions, inventors, famous scientist of the period (there are so many!). Just suggestions... I think it will be Flying Creatures of the Fifth day. I'm not too sure about a writing program yet. We will be journaling every day as well, but I may add in something just a little. This year we do WT, but we skip a lot and focus mainly on the writing of the summary. Would that be overkill?

Well, I was thinking that ds9 really struggles with spelling so he could use the extra practice. I would be doing it with dd7 who is a natural speller and she just loves to do spelling. It's her fave subject. What do ya think about adding in WWE or WT, but skipping copywork and spelling parts?
Sue G in PA
Adding WT could work. Your schedule would then look much like my 3rd gr and 5th gr. schedule! LLATL does not have enough spelling for my non-nat. spellers and thus we will use AAS (quick and painless). It also does not have enough writing for my 5th grader who has not really had a good writing program yet. He will use WT2 next year. I'm so undecided on grammar. I certainly don't want overkill, but at the same time want to provide a firm foundation in grammar. I'm leaning towards PLL and ILL but adding in some basic diagramming and parts of speech (dh thinks it is necessary and he doesn't comment very often on my curriculum choices so I think I might need to oblige him here!). Anyway, it could all be overkill depending on HOW you schedule everything. THat is what I've been working on lately...a schedule for next year so it won't be overkill, KWIM? Oh, yes, definitely skip "some" of the copywork and dictation if you are adding a writing program.

My problem is that I love so many different curriculums so I'm stumped. Now I'm looking at WWE, and I'm loving that too! Hmmm. BTW, in LLATL, do you have dc read the books before or just along with the lesson as you go?

I love so much and want to do it all NOW. :D I keep forgetting I have a bunch of little ones coming along to "test" the programs on! Anyway, as to your Q re: books in LLATL...I can't answer that b/c we haven't gotten to a book study yet! I'll have to let you know when we come to one. WWE does look promising. I'm going to check it out at the NOVA conf. in July before I decide. I'm looking at it for ds6 for next year. Good luck w/ your decision making...let us know what you finally decide. It might help me in my dec. making process!
sunflowerlady
I have an upcoming fourth grader also. For me, I would just do the LLATL and leave out the other language arts items since LLATL is meant to be inclusive. However, I get stressed out by trying to do too many things , so that's just me.;) Looks good. For my fourth grader I am considering: (not that you asked LOL) Rod and Staff or Bob Jones English ACE Math-this is fairly definite since we've been using it all along and it works. Christian Liberty Press American History-the fifth grade book. Already have this. Just heard about A Child's Geography. I will look into this further. Science-This is the most unknown. Will be considering- Rod and Staff, Apologia Land Creatures, Considering God's Creation
Stacy in NJ
Honestly, you look a bit curriculum heavy to me. You're using both LLATL and Intermediate Language Lessons. They might overlap quite a bit. Sonlight usually includes geography as part of it's overall program; so, Beautiful Feet Geography might be redundant. I guess if you already have these on your shelves, no problem, but if you haven't already purchased, you might want to slim down a bit.
