So, we had the feedback meeting with the Neuropsychologist today. He went over all of Michael's testing. He scores in the Superior, Above Average, and Average range on most tests, but does show significant impairment in certain areas. His ability to look at something and reproduce it, wether it is letters or a picture is REALLY impaired. Yet, he can remember what he saw and remember it later really well. So...he can just barely copy something while looking at it, can't redraw it later from memory at all, but can easily identify it if shown in a group an hour later. In some of the sustained attention tests he scored as low as the 3%. He is therefore considered to have mild ADHD-Inattentive...in other words no hyperactivity, just trouble focusing certain parts of his brain. The tests correlated with our experiences, such as how much trouble he has with multi step directions. He said we should consider trying medication to see if that helps, but only use it if he needs it. I will have to think about that. His pediatrician would be the one to prescribe it if we did it.

He also considers him to have mild-moderate Asperger's Syndome. He advises therapy focusing on learning social skills. He also feels he is mildly- moderately depressed. He doesn't think he needs any medication for that, but instead thinks that working on the social skills and the memory issues will help resolve the depression. He wants us to have him see a therapist that works with kids with Aspergers and ADD and gave us a handout on a local support group based at UCF.

He also advised doing working memory training, specifically cogmed, but there is no way we can afford that. It is 1,500 dollars, and not covered by insurance.

It was interesting and a bit upsetting to see how much his IQ scores dropped, across the board, which he feels are because of the depression and other issues. So we definitely have to help him with this, because it is affecting him.

I'm a little confused and wondered if you could clarify. Did the neuropsych say that this particular part was related to attention? or something else?
