I want to bake a chocolate cake, but I have no butter...

Fluffy white frosting:

 

1 C. shortening

1/4 tsp. salt

4 C. powdered sugar

3-4 Tbsp. milk

1 tsp. almond or vanilla extract

 

Beat the shortening for 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I go for as much as 20 minutes. (This step is important, or it won't be fluffy and it won't spread nicely.) Add the rest of the ingredients. Start with 3 Tbsp milk and add more to get the desired consistancy.

 

I think you can add about 1/4 cocoa powder to it if you want chocolate frosting.

Chocolate is a very forgiving cake. Use either the shortening or the olive oil to replace the butter (it will be a little more liquid with olive oil, so add a little flour if it looks too runny).

 

For the frosting, use the shortening in place of butter and it will be fine.
