skissugar
okay so now i know WHY Latin.. and have finally recieved my wtm book in the mail lol.. I have to ask. I know its going against what it says in the wtm book but have any of you done some type of Online Latin course? If so what are your recomendations. My friend is using Rosetta Stone and she says her kids 1st and 4th are doing just fine on it. But that is pricey to get for not only latin but were doing spanish as well so anyone have anything cheaper? or should i just go with prima and christiana and suck it up. Wendy in ME
How old are your children? If they are young and you are just starting out I wouldn't think that you need an online program. We are using both Latina Christiana I and Lively Latin I this year. Each ds has a different learning style. The are both very easy to use with no experience. I spent 8 years on French and never thought that I would be learning Latin. We are almost at the end of the year and I would say that it has been a success. Beth in Central TX
Here's a previous thread on Rosetta Stone Latin verses Prima Latina: http://67.202.21.157/forums/showthread.php?t=19495&highlight=rosetta+stone Here is my response to that thread: I started with Primal Latina (PL) and the Rosetta Stone (RS) Latin Explorer. PL was a great fit for us. I tried RS Latin on my own so that I could learn ahead of my boys, but it was difficult to make sense and to hear the different Latin declension endings in RS as a newbie to Latin. In addition, RS Latin uses classical pronounciation and PL DVD & audio CD uses the ecclesiastical pronunciation, which was confusing at that time. I have about 4 years of Latin under my belt now, so the pronounciation differences aren't a big deal, but when I was just starting out, I had no clue that the different sounding words were the same. This is just my experience though. The only on-line Latin option I've used so far is a free Wheelock's Latin study for me. As my boys move into the higher levels of Latin, I may decide to use an on-line class for them, but for now, we are doing fine at home on our own. Many people use on-line Latin classes for their children, but it's usually for older children. If you're children are young, there are many options for you to start at home: Prima Latina, Lively Latin, Latin for Children, etc.; the list is almost endless, and you'll get as many opinions on what to use as there are people on this board. It's great to have all of these resources for homeschoolers, but not so great when you're actually trying to decide which program to use. Sophia
I highly recommend Lively Latin. It has been a huge hit with my 9.y.o. I used LC1 with my older two, and it was much more difficult to teach.
