Allison TX
My son is really struggling with TT 7. This is our 3rd year using TT and he has always done well with it. The past several weeks he has struggled. He seems very week on fractions, and is not doing great with decimals and percents. What could I use to help him understand some of these concepts more clearly? I've seen suggestions for Key to Series, Math Mammoth review books, and Life of Fred. Which one do I need?
Momling
I'd use either Keys to... or Math Mammoth. Both lay out fractions in very gradual doses that'll take your son to a full understanding. Life of Fred Fractions is awesome, but I think of it more as a fun extension of materials. Fractions can be tricky... I just don't think it's explicit enough for a struggling student. sweetbaby
I would definitely go with Key to series. I have 7th graders also and the fraction books were really helpful and they are inexpensive as well.
Allison TX
Thanks Momling and Sweetbaby. Do I need to start with Book 1 in the Key to Fractions series?
Momling
I would probably start at the beginning of the Keys to... series. I haven't used it for 10 years or so, but the books are very inexpensive. It might just take him a few days to get through the first one and it could fill in any gaps he has.
