goldberry
This is a desparate attempt, because I remember so little about it. I read this book as an upper elementary or middle school girl. It was about a girl who moves into an old house, in one section she discovers something written on a table (like when you press too hard and writing goes through to the wood) and she also finds a doll in the attic. It was kind of a mystery about who used to live in the house (maybe an old relative? I'm not sure...) At first I thought is was "Secret Emily" but when I got that book, I remembered that I just read that about the same time. Any ideas? JessieC
Was it "Magic Elizabeth"? She finds an old diary, I think, and has dream-like flashbacks of being the little girl who used to own the doll, like memories of going to get a Christmas tree? And she lives with her aunt, who is kind of mysterious? I don't remember the part about the writing on the table though, so maybe I'm wrong. Mrs Mungo
I don't remember anything about writing on a table, but "Behind the Attic Wall" has most of the elements that you mention. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/0380698439/ref=aw_d_cr_books

JessieC
You're welcome! That brought me back...I loved that book as a kid. But $27?? Interlibrary loan, perhaps? Wait, looks like you can get a used copy for under $2. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0679802614/ref=tmm_pap_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&qid=1297028321&sr=8-1&condition=used

HRAAB
I wondered if it was Magic Elizabeth, but I couldn't remember anything about the writing on the table. Anyway, I loved that book. I just found my old copy from when I was a girl. Now maybe one of my girls would like to read it.

But when I follow your link, I get there... Why would it not come up for me?
