workingmom
Ok flipped through a friend's copy and she said they didn't need a TM for the Grammar books, however do you need one for the CE and Paragraph Town or do they do the writing on another sheet? I'm looking to get this for my 5th grader next fall and also while I think Grammar Town is a bit of a review wanted to know is there already a schedule for it (like how many pages per day) and then move into Grammar Voyage. I read something about being a new edition and now its going to require a Student book but can't figure out what its for the grammar or the writing part. Thanks
wapiti
Recently I was asking about MCT and learned, among other things, that: The Teacher Manuals for Grammar Island and Grammar Town have been revised and now it's no longer recommended that they be used without the Student Book. It's a recent change so I thought I'd mention it. So, unless one is buying a used copy of the previous edition, they should order both. I think Paragraph Town is the one you buy just the TM for and not the student book.
workingmom
How do you know which edition is the revised one, because looking at the website the pics of Grammar Town look the same as my friend had, and she did fine with the TM only? Is there a new publication date or some type of edition #on the cover? Besides the publisher where else can you purchase it where you might be able to get the older version? wapiti
Used book websites would include the year. The revised versions are fairly new, so I'd guess that the previous versions were at least a few years old. (I don't know any more than that - I have no plan to buy MCT at this point.) Veritaserum
You need the teacher books. It's the student books that may be optional. I think in the revision (I have the previous editions) they added more stuff to the pages of text, cluttering them to the point that they no longer think the teacher text is suitable for student use. I could be wrong about that, but if I'm right you may still be able to get away with just the teacher book. The program really comes alive when you do the lessons outlined in the teacher section at the back of the teacher book. It's not a complete program unless you do the lessons. :)

What about Paragraph Town does that need a student book?

What about Paragraph Town does that need a student book? The only student books we have are Practice Island and Practice Town. We only have the teacher books for all of Island and Town. With only one student at a time, I don't see a need for a separate student book. :)
