nitascool
Do you read the weekly reading for AO2 with your 2nd grader or do you have them read the materials independently? For instance week 1's list of reading includes... The Bible An Island Story ch 22 Harold Trial and Triumph 10. Charlemagne Protector of the Church (742-814 AD) The Little Duke - first half of chapter 1 Tree in the Trail chapter 1 Burgess Animal Book I Jenny Wren Gives Peter Rabbit an Idea, II Peter and Jumper Go To School Poetry of Walter de la Mare Lamb's or Nesbit's Shakespeare: The Two Gentlemen of Verona Pilgrim's Progress: about 800 words every week .... Would this be what an average 6-7 year old can read independently or is this read aloud?
AngelBee
We do it all read aloud. :) I start independent readings in 4th or 5th grade. We still do some together though even at that point.

Would this be what an average 6-7 year old can read independently or is this read aloud? Yes, I did this for years!:tongue_smilie: I read aloud the stories. However in order to help me, I did use books on CD or tape to help with the readings. For Trial and Triumph, I waited until my son was doing Story of the World on the second round. I had him read Trial and Triumph alongside his world history readings. That worked out perfectly. I never read that to him. What I do with the Shakespeare is I waited until my children were in 4th grade and then I started him with Lamb's Shakespeare. I would have my son read only two paragraphs at a time and then explain back to me what he read. Burgess Book, there is a free read aloud that I found on the web, but my computer crashed, I do not have that site. I use to play that for the children. I only had them read independently at 4th grade. Blessings in your homeschooling journey!
