jelbe5
We have always done ours ourselves. This will be the second year I have used the free version of Taxact online. Everything is actually done; I just want to go over it one more time before I submit. Adrianne in IL
Crimson Wife
My first job out of college was as an office manager for a tax preparation place. I was shocked to discover that the preparers were using a software nearly identical to TurboTax yet they charged hundreds of dollars for the privilege :glare: If we ever have complicated taxes, I would hire an actual CPA but we're not there yet. tmulcahy
Turbo Tax. Did ours last week and already got our state refund.
milovany
I have always done our taxes (married 18 years), all but one year. We used H&R that one year, and they charged $250. I looked over the forms afterward and there was nothing there I couldn't have handled, so we went right back to doing our own. And ours aren't the simplest: we own two businesses, we itemize deductions, we own our own home and have one rental property. I use TaxAct and prefer it over TurboTax. It's very, very user friendly -- it walks you through everything.
justamouse
H E double toothpicks no. WAAAYYY too complicated. If were just a paycheck and deductibles, yeah. We have the company CPA do them.

I can understand paying $300+ to a tax accountant who works all year on keeping up with the tax law changes. I can not understand paying $300 to a tax "preparer" who does not do that. There are nuances in the law that the software doesn't grasp. Why not just do it yourself if you feel you don't have any need for the nuance? Rhonda in TX
I've always done our taxes. I started using Turbo Tax when we opened a small business. It's pretty easy, but definitely not headache-free. If I could talk DH into hiring it out, I would.
texasmama
My husband has always done them. We use a tax program (Turbo Tax, I believe). We own a small business so our taxes are not straight forward, but the program walks him through it step by step and has built in checks. The IRS has never challenged or audited us. Rosie_0801
Dh does his, I fill out my own "I don't have to pay tax" form. I used to do mine when I actually paid tax. :) Rosie
Lady Florida.
When we first got married dh was using a CPA, a guy he went to high school with. I convinced him it wasn't necessary, but he still felt bad "leaving him". It took me several years, but I finally got him to let me do our taxes. We use either Turbo Tax and H&R Block software. alpidarkomama
I've done them myself my whole life, except for the first year I had a business. I paid for that year and used that as my model. This was before TurboTax/MacInTax. :) It's so EASY to do it yourself!
brewer13399
I do ours and it really hasn't been that bad since we started our own business either. Pretty easy.
May
A CPA from our former church does them for us but hasn't ever charged us to do so.
