King Alfred Academy
Total yoga newbie and I have a few questions. I'm not signing up for a class (yet) but got a dvd to help me learn the poses at home before I attend a class. What should I look for in a mat and why are they needed? Thanks! :001_smile:
SeekingSimplicity
sticky mats help you not to slip while in poses. When we had carpet, I did yoga for years without a mat. After we ripped up the carpet and put wood down, I found that I needed a mat for safety reasons. There's some other uses for mats also, as props, if you find that you need props. UnsinkableKristen
All you need is a basic, non-skid mat. I have a cheap one I bought at Walmart for $9 that I've used consistently for almost 10 years now. It really is just for keeping your balance and helping you to not slide around while you are in a pose.

I'm off to get a mat so I don't slip! :001_smile:
