Tanya in KS
I just received a 1099 MISC from State of KS for $8290.00, nonemployee compensation. It does have my social security number on it. (This is where we live.) I haven't worked in 12 years! I have been married to same man with same children that we have made together or adopted through the state - so no I don't owe child support. We are not delinquent on anything. I just can't fathom what this is! It drops our refund down $1000.00. I am so mad! I will be calling in the morning but I am worried about identity theft now & what it could possibly be!!! Thanks for listening and allowing my vent. TN Mama
Scary! Hope it turns out to be nothing, but I'm glad you're calling asap!
RanchGirl
have you received anything from the state like foster/adoption payments? that is the only thing I can think of. I hope it is something quickly resolved, whatever it is!
thescrappyhomeschooler
I would definitely be making sure no one else was using my SSN! I hope you can get it worked out. :grouphug:
Tap
Here is a link to the IRS page that talks about when to use/not-use a 1099 (for the payor). It may offer a clue. It could be as simple as a typo when someone filled out a form. I hope you can get it fixed ASAP.
