Alice
Matisse- Collages are easy. Monet- I went to a class with my son where they looked at Monet and tried to do Impressionist pictures. The kids really got into it. They were all 4-5 yrs old.

beansprouts
Check out "Art for the very young" http://www.amazon.com/Art-Very-Young-Ages-3-6/dp/1568226683/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209561940&sr=8-1 I used this with dd when she was little. I should dig it out again for 4yo ds... This one looks interesting as well: http://www.amazon.com/Discovering-Great-Artists-Hands-Children/dp/0935607099/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209562009&sr=8-2 but I don't see a target age for the activities. The description does say the reading level is 9 - 12 years old.
Bambam
We did Monet and made waterlilies. Just give them a sheet of paper and some paint, and let them cover over the paper with paint. Then cut out three waterlily patterns - each slightly smaller, layer them and glue them together. Slightly bend (lengthwise) each petal and you have a three-dimensional waterlily. We still have ours (5 years later) as a frig magnet.
WTMindy
Michelangelo... Tape paper to the bottom of a table. Let them lay on their backs and paint upwards--voila, Sistine Chapel! This was exactly what I was going to say! :-)
LibraryLover
How about not Starry Night or Sunflowers? We did that...and I wanted to just say "He died" but the small child could already read and read ahead. Not the most fun conversation. So, yes, Monet. Then you could check out Linnea in Monet's Garden. There is a sweet book & a beautiful DVD: http://www.amazon.com/Linnea-Monets-Garden-Heinz-Schachtner/dp/B00000IZ83/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
