Parrothead
Dd microwaved a cinamon roll until it was black. Totally accidental. I've gotten the smoke and stink out of the house, but the microwave reeks. Any idea how to get the stench out of the machine?
laundrycrisis
If the interior of the microwave sustained any heat damage, do not use it - it will leak microwaves. The best thing I have found to get stink out of plastic is Clorox Cleanup.
gardening momma
Just a guess--microwave a bowl of water with some baking soda?
herbalgirl
I've read that putting some vinegar in a glass dish/Pyrex measuring cup and microwaving it until it boils (careful taking it out, though), then wiping down the interior will get rid of smells. Uggh. It must be like the smell of burnt microwave popcorn. Blah!

MariannNOVA
dd11 did that during the summer with mac and cheese in the microwave -- we threw the microwave away. Well actually, we moved it outside and when we did, the smell was gone, so then we moved it to the curb. When the mac and cheese burned, there was thick gray smoke everywhere -- I know just what you are talking about. Turns out there was actually a tiny cut in the bottom of the mac and cheese container and that was what caused the entire thing - a leak. Parrothead
Ah, sheesh. This microwave is less than a year old.
Lisa in Jax
Microwave a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice in water, then wipe down the walls with a damp rag. It helps with those burnt smells. :) Lisa
nukeswife
Microwave a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice in water, then wipe down the walls with a damp rag. It helps with those burnt smells. :) Lisa When my son vaporized some bagel bites last winter in our microwave, I did the above. Except I just cut up lemons and put them in a bowl of water and zapped that for a few minutes. I took a few times of doing it, but it eventually got rid of the burnt smell. I was thinking lemons, too. maybe put it in the garage overnight?
Paintedlady
I usually use plain white vinegar and water to neutralize smells. I like the idea of the lemons as well. Maybe vinegar first and then lemons? hth!
laundrycrisis
how would I know? Look for any discolored plastic - also run your hand above and below where the food was. If you feel any warped plastic, or plastic that has a different texture than the rest, sort of rough or crackled, that is probably heat damage. TammyinTN
I cut up a fresh lemon put it in a 4 cup measuring cup full of water and microwave for 4 minutes on high. Let it sit for 10 minutes, wipe it out and leave the door open for a little while. Good luck!
