mo2
Would it be too much to cram all of Elemental Science's work into one day a week? I am thinking of moving to a schedule where we would do core subjects 4 days a week and then on the 5th day do science and history.

boscopup
Which one? I often do Intro to Science one day a week, but I don't know about the regular grammar stage ones.
CarrieF
We are using ES Earth Science and Astronomy and have done all the work on one day several times. It works as long as we know going in that it is going to take longer OR we break it up into two "sessions" so the kids don't get "burned out" or fried by too long a session. I think it is totally doable, just set realistic expectations and you'll be good to go. ;)

Hijacking my own thread: How do you like Intro to Science? I'm thinking of it for my preK-er next year.

robsiew
We just started Chem. I would think you could do it if your kids don't mind doing it all at once. We do the 2 day schedule. 2 days on history and 2 days on science and that is going well here.
Samiam
Depends on your children's age but I don't think so. Each lesson took my son about 10-15 minutes. That includes the reading, which was usually less than a page or two, a vocab word or two. You could definately scrunch it altogether, but may want to pick and choose which experiment to do. TheAutumnOak
It would be for us...We are doing the 5 day schedule of Biology Grammar Stage...We usually do it in 4 days, but all the write ups would be alot for them to do in 1 day... GoVanGogh
We are using chemistry and generally do all week's worth in one day. That said, we just finished week 13 (or 14?) and it didn't break well between the topics so we did something like M-W one day and Th-Mon another day then Tue-Friday, or something like that. (Don't have my book right in front of me to check my memory!)
joyfulmomSDG
Chemistry. Hijacking my own thread: How do you like Intro to Science? I'm thinking of it for my preK-er next year. Intro to Science is *perfect* from my preK-er! Just right on her level...she loves the experiments and filling out the student pages (w/ my help with writing the words). We do it 1x per week right now and don't usually get to the Nature Study portion, but when the weather lets up I'll follow the 2-day schedule and bring that part back. I see no problem with doing it all in 1 day - especially if you choose not to do all of the add'l activities. I keep the add'l recommended books (from the library) around to pick up and look at or read anytime during the week. It has been great for us so far...HTH! TXMary2
We are using Biology and we do a whole week in one day - depending on the experiment it takes us about an hour on average.
CarrieF
This is a good point. Maybe a lunch break in the middle? Lunch break in between is a great idea. That way the excitement and curiosity stay "fresh" instead of getting bogged down by the amount of time it might take to do it all at once. :001_smile:
