PiCO
So sad, but he sure lived a long, full life! He often said dying would be bad for his image. What a character.

Ibbygirl
Wow! I'm sorry to hear he has left us. He truly was a pioneer. God bless him.
Chris in VA
Oh, that's sad! I remember watching him with my mom when I was a little girl. I remember later seeing him "in color," with his blue jumpsuit. IDK what he was like IRL, but he seemed to be a fine and happy man on TV, and I really admired him. Mothersweets
My sons just bought me his juicer last week. I thought he was amazing. God rest his soul.
Catwoman
That is so sad. I really believed he'd live to be 100 or more. My grandmother used to exercise with him every morning (on TV) in the late 60's. She was in her 80's, but did her workout with Jack every single day. Kathleen in VA
A quote from the news release: LaLanne's wife of 51 years released a statement on her husband's passing: "I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for," Elaine said. Isn't that precious? He sounds like he was a very good, loving husband.:)
Suzanne in ABQ
I can still picture him in my mind, doing jumping jacks in his blue jump suit, silhouetted against the TV screen. :) I saw pics of him at 93, still in great shape, not looking a day over 60! He was amazing!
Margo out of lurking
Thanks for posting this. We lived near where his show was taped (Jack London Square!). It was the ONLY thing on tv at 6:30? 7:00? a.m. back then. I still remember those oh-so-odd face (stretching) exercises he did. (Sometimes I do them now in the hopes that it might work, lol.) I remember him swimming to Alcatraz Island. Off to email my sister and remember.

I love it when someone we all admire is worth admiring. (As opposed to the John Edwards type. Too bad God couldn't have taken John Edwards and left Jack to spend a few more happy years with his wife and family.)

5KidzRUs
I think he got hsi start in Fontana, CA - I remember seeing his name on a building there when I was a kid. I can't find anything on the internet about that place - though I guess he started in the 50s - before my childhood. Sad he passed :( Edited January 24, 2011 by 5KidzRUs
